The Grove

Highest of the lodges of Ioth Academy, The Grove is a floating land mass covered with a lush, verdant forest. It circles the Spire of the academy clockwise at a height of four and a half thousand feet and is home to between three and four hundred students at a time. Wooden structures gathered in clusters serve as dormitories and libraries, while open clearings beneath the golden light of the sun are the only classrooms the Grove requires.

Purpose / Function

The Grove houses and teaches First through Fourth year students (see Ioth Academy Curriculum). It is affiliated with the element of Fire, as exemplified by the sun. Students taught at the Grove either possess an inner passion that needs to be nurtured and gentled, or have yet to come out of their shells and need sunlight and the outdoors to mature.

Architecture

The Grove is largely a forest, floating on a landmass suspended thousands of feet in the air in Ioth Academy. Many of its facilities are outdoor or "naturally" formed. The grove's actual facilities consist of wooden structures arrayed in small clusters. Several of these are dormitories, usually consisting of long wooden halls with high windows and bunk beds. 
Libraries are insulated with soil and stone to prevent moisture from damaging books. There are three small "villages," each with its own dormitories, outdoor eating areas & kitchens, libraries, workshops and a handful of outbuildings.
The classrooms are clearings in the larger forest, denoted by floating lights and stone pathways. Each clearing has its own enchantments, insulating or magnifying different types of magic to ensure a safe learning environment for the class.

Defenses

Its position high in the Golden Sphere makes The Grove extremely difficult to assault. Other than that, it's watched over by the caretakers, who have the means to alert Wardens and Inril Untermauler, the head of security.

History

• 6858: Alyxander, Athalor, Garnet, Arianna and Sventisko begin their education at Ioth Academy in the Grove. Halfway through the year, Alyxander, Athalor and Garnet are transferred to The Great Hall after Garnet creates a Sphere of Annihilation by accident.

• 6859: Arianna is transferred to The Great Hall. Later that year, the gang returns to meet, and eventually bind, Doobbaasseef  to their will.
