Eythgos

By rein and spear, we prevail
Once called the land of crossings, now Emankorrak writhes in the grasp of The Iron Empire. The province of Eythgos stretches across the plains of the Emamu gods, burning their holy places and raising fortresses in their place.

Culture

Uzhul brought the precepts of the Great Chain to Emankorrak and attempted to subjugate the local Surka and Khemmu cultures. As such, while the cultural moreaus of The Iron Empire are predominate, underneath the belief in Loyalty, Strength and Utility are traces of the old ways.   Where the Emamu once built stone fortresses for protection from the Infernals, now they build defenses against their former gods, the Emamu. Where the Khemmu once rode the great horses of the plains to escape the Raveners, now they break steeds of war to ride against Uzhul's enemies.

Public Agenda

Subjugate the forces of chaos and bring civilization to the Sunswept Lands and beyond.

History

The Demonic Imperium (6412 -- 6442)

The wide steppes and river lands of Emankorrak were home to the Emamu animal gods and their followers, the Surka people. With the death of Erecura, Raveners poured out of the forests and across the plains. The Demonic Imperium brought an end to the Surka's nomadic lifestyle, driving them to construct hilltop forts and turn to Vindur worship for protection.   Five years afterwards (in 6417), migrating humans and plainsfolk fleeing The Iron Empire to the west traveled through the swamps of Glukmoore and arrived in the Emankorrak plains. They brought with them techniques for taming wild horses--anathema to the animal-worshipping Surka--and used the peerless herds of Emankorrak to stay one step ahead of the Raveners. They became the Khemmu, horse nomads and raiders of the open plains.

Duel of the Archons (6442--6518)

On Nis' day mid Emberheart in 6442, the Raveners surrounded the prominent Surka settlement of Zibin. While the elders burned sacrifices to Vindur to ask his protection, a leader named Kizurra ignored the call to prayer, issuing a call to arms instead. They brought all the fighting-capable people of Zibin to the walls, hurling spears and flinging stones at the oncoming horde. When the long sun finally began to set, bloody mud surrounded the hilltop stronghold. But already the other Raveners feasted upon their own dead, just out of Zibin's range, gathering their strength.   But the second attack never came. A burning door opened in the air, growing wider and wider until a thundering herd of horses could pass through it. Iron trumpets sounded from beyond. Thousands of drums beat in unison. Spears clashed against shields and uncountable tongues, fiendish and mortal, shouted a challenge in the name of their god: UZHUL! UZHUL! UZHUL   And the Destroyer himself stepped through the burning door, towering above even the war machines of his legions, clad in obsidian black armor, wielding two terrible blades still stained with the blood of the earth. The ground shook beneath his feet, and the courage of the Surka shriveled at the sound of his voice. He called for Kizurra of Zibin to submit themself to the Commander-Of-The-Fiends-In-Battle, and Kizurra submitted.   With the coming of Uzhul, the Raveners fled to distant lands. Kizurra learned the arts of war from the Destroyer, constantly tested and threatened. Kizurra quickly realized the danger of being found wanting, and made increasingly callous, calculated decisions, sending the weakest warriors of Zibin to die first.   Hill by hill, field by field, Kizurra moved across Emankorrak. With Uzhul's legions at his back, he entered the Surka hill forts, announcing their place in the Great Chain and demanding their obedience. Some bent the knee, some fled, and other still lit the sacrificial fires and called upon Vindur to strike down the invaders. And indeed, storms roared across the sky and bolts of fury rained down. Some Surka communities that surrendered to Kizurra were obliterated by Vindur's wrath for their weakness. But the march rolled on--until the Khemmu tribes united against them.   It was Kizurra's first significant defeat dealt not by the fist of an angry god, but by mortal blades and bows. Nergui was her name, black hair flowing in the winds of war. It was Nergui who rode across the hills of Emankorrak, tracking down every band of Khemmu raiders and nomads, coercing or convincing them to ride behind her. Even as Kizurra conquered the lands in Uzhul's name, Nergui's army grew, and in the shadow of Mount Suudur they crashed into the Shield Legions. It was the first battle of many. Kizurra saw the anger of the Destroyer growing -- not with this new opponent, but with Kizurra themself. Kizurra trained their armies relentlessly, finding new strategies to counter the devastating charges and horse archers of Nergui.   The war lasted six years, and culminated in a final battle where it all began -- in Mount Suudur's Shadow. Kizurra laid a diabolical trap, concealing wooden spikes in key areas and positioning armored archers with tactical control over the battlefield. After three days and three nights of back and forth bloodshed, Kizurra finally saw Nergui's horse fall beneath her. His personal guard closed in, under strict orders to bring her alive.   So they did--but when they returned to Kizurra's war camp, the captive burst from her bonds, and the personal guard drew their blades on Kizurra instead. It was a ruse--she'd lured out the honor guard, killed them, and put their armor on her most vicious warriors.   But that was not the end. Before the final blood could be spilled, and Nergui's armies could tear apart the forces of The Iron Empire from within, the shadow of Uzhul's wings and the hellfire of his eyes burst forth. In the very moment of defeat, he praised Nergui for her victory--and named her his Archon. She proved herself the greater warlord, and by her deeds and wit these lands, and all Kizurra's legions, were now hers to rule...so long as she bowed to the Destroyer.   Nergui slaughtered Kizurra and offered his blood as a sacrifice to her new god. Mount Suudur burst in thunder and wrath, but the Destroyer stared straight into the storm, daring the Sovereign of the Skies to intervene. Those legions and armies in the mountain's shadow were destroyed, but Uzhul remained untouched.   So ended the Duel of the Archons. Though Kizurra was the first to bear the title, in the annals of history the Grand Archon of Eythgos is Nergui. By her betrayal, many Khemmu tribes forsook their ways and paid homage to The Iron Empire. Those who stayed true swore eternal vengeance on the traitors.
