Azarael and Raphael were in the same fledgling cohort and bonded intensely enough to be considered rishkim. As serafim, they were always assigned together and spent their term as fledgling trainers together. After ascending to eben petra, they were given separate commands that have put them in different physical locations but they remain close through text chats, telephone calls, and emails.

Historically, Rafael has been the first person Gabriel comes to when he's made a mistake. Rafael is particularly good at calming his brother down when he's panicking and usually helps him solve the problem with compassion and fondness. Rafael met Gracia on one of his visits for the Arctic Angel Base in Azarael's company. He took a liking to her and favored her almost exclusively for about five years. He fathered three nefilim children on her before she became pregnant with Marley.
