Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Color preferences? -- Tyriel presents as he thinks of himself: drab and unnoticeable. He is usually whatever ethnicity is the most common in any social situation with hair color and skin tone matching the average. When he’s alone or only with other angels, his skin is a dusky, almost neutral brown color and his hair is medium to dark brown in a short, straight cut. His eyes are hazel-brown most of the time, though they do change based on weather, his mood, the ethnicity of people around him, etc. While most angels have at least one static facet of their appearance that doesn’t ever change, Tyriel doesn’t seem to.

After his fall, Tyriel’s wings stain mottled brown and cream, resembling any number of ground birds, most notably the whippoorwill. When this happens, his hair also becomes mottled brown and white. His features go static with a middle-European presentation, dark hazel eyes and dark, curly black hair; this is the appearance Kyle Blum identifies as "looking Jewish."

Education

What is a formative experience from their childhood? -- One of Tyriel’s first memories is of being alone in the woods somewhere in Northern Europe and watching a deer grazing. He followed it around for hours, just watching the way it moved and behaved. His heart broke when he finally betrayed himself and the deer ran away.

Intellectual Characteristics

How do they handle being lost? -- It depends on the weather. If he’s lost outside during rain, Tyriel will panic and probably run around until he gets even more lost than he was originally. If the weather is nice, he’ll be better about keeping his head and finding the path back or flying up to see where he is. Inside, he gets claustrophobic and twitchy until he finds a clear floor map.

How would they cope with a sudden academic requirement? -- The sudden stress would freak him out a little and he would study like crazy. He wouldn’t sleep well the night before and would pass out immediately after finishing the test. Scores would be fairly high since he does retain information pretty well. He’s much calmer about research papers and enjoys spending time writing.

How would they cope with being abducted by aliens? -- Shock and awe and really wide eyes for probably about an hour. If he doesn’t pass out in terror before that point, he would probably get very excited and ask a lot of questions.

How present and aware are they? -- Tyriel is usually pretty good about knowing what’s going on, though he does tend to let his mind wander when he’s bored. He’s very creative and will sometimes surface from a thought with a confused expression like he isn’t quite sure where he is or how he got there.

How impulsive are they? -- While he is often unnoticed, Tyriel makes decisions with incredible speed and acts on them just as fast. This is especially true if it’s something that will make someone he cares about happy.

Morality & Philosophy

How do they respond to those in need? -- Tyriel prefers to be unnoticed. Most people won’t think to ask him for help, but he does like to help in small ways: putting a tool in someone’s hand before they know they need it, leaving food for hungry people when they aren’t looking, etc. When he’s living in Hogback, it takes a while but people start to realize that things get done when Tyriel is around and nobody remembers doing them. If asked, he’ll blush and say he doesn’t know anything about it.

What are their moral priorities? -- Tyriel is selfish for an angel. He considers his own needs and the needs of people close to him first, ready to defend them or himself viciously. He will sacrifice others to save himself or his loved ones, though he will feel horribly guilty about it afterward.

How comfortable are they with being petty or cruel? -- When under stress, Tyriel tends to lash out. His temper is mostly verbal and he can be pretty cruel if he’s not careful. He can get petty if stressed for too long, but he always feels guilty when he has hurt someone.

Under what circumstances would they appear naked in public? -- Tyriel enjoys sunning naked, especially in the woods when he’s unlikely to be seen. He often has to be reminded when there are kids around and he should really cover up.

Likes & Dislikes

What are their food preferences -- Tyriel loves carbs, cheese and spices. In particular, pizza is his favorite thing, though he will also accept garlic cheese bread, breadsticks, breaded mozzarella sticks, and Texas toast. Some of the nephilim have voiced the opinion that if Tyriel was human, he would be as big as a house, given how many carbs he eats.

What irrationally irritates them? -- Being wet. Tyriel really hates being wet. It isn’t irrational, really, considering how long it takes his feathers to dry when he’s waterlogged. When it starts to rain, Tyriel is usually the first angel to run screaming for shelter like the water is going to burn his skin.

What style music do they prefer? -- Tyriel loves to dig down into the weirdest things he can find. One hit wonders, obscure folk music, famous artists’ side projects and self-released music on YouTube are his favorites. In particular, he likes Blaqk Audio (AFI’s Davey Havok side project) and Hindu Love Gods (R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, Bill Berry, and Peter Buck’s side project).

Vices & Personality flaws

How do they sabotage themselves? -- He stays in the background sometimes too long before deciding to act, especially if he’s nervous. He hesitates more when under pressure and it sometimes causes anxiety attacks, which is one reason he makes decisions so quickly: the more he thinks about something, the more likely he is to lock up and do nothing.

What possession do they have that they are ashamed of? -- When he fell, Tyriel killed the angel who killed his mate and fled. He also took with him the sword he had used to kill his fellow angel. While he takes good care of it as a weapon, there is still blood staining the hilt and he regards it with incredible guilt when he allows himself to see it.

Personality Quirks

Do they have any other names? -- Tyriel likes his given name rather a lot. The only nickname he is comfortable with is “Tyr” and only his fledge mates ever called him that. Even they stopped after they were commissioned and assigned choirs.

Hygiene

How involved is their hygiene? -- Tyriel loves to preen, both himself and others. Most mornings, he preens while he’s sunning himself since it’s more efficient to get them both done at once. He is not very waterproof, though, so he avoids getting his wings wet. A soggy Tyriel is hysterically miserable.

How conscious are they of their physical needs? -- He’ll go days without drinking unless someone reminds him, though he’s good about sunning and preening. The water thing is strange, considering most angels recognize thirst the way humans do hunger. It’s as if Tyriel doesn’t feel thirsty, even when he’s dehydrated to the point of weakness.

What do they smell like? -- Depending on how much garlic he ate, Tyriel smells like warm things: cinnamon and ginger and molasses. He tends to have a slightly metallic scent when he’s been using feather powder to preen, but he only does that occasionally. He does like a skin oil that smells like amber and ginger that he uses sometimes, but not often.

Religious Views

How is their relationship with their parents? -- Tyriel has respect for God as his creator, but that’s as far as the fondness goes. Like everyone else, God tends to overlook Tyriel and he is perfectly comfortable with that, though it caused him some bitterness early in his life. He decided eventually that he was better off without that kind of regard and set about being invisible in most situations.

Social Aptitude

How good are they with children and/or animals? -- Kids like Tyriel but he doesn’t know why. Cats like him, too and he feels the same way. Dogs he likes and they like him. Cats are known to follow Tyriel around until he sits down so they can sit in his lap. Children have also been known to do this. This behavior makes him a little paranoid, but once he’s settled with a lap full of company, he calms down and enjoys the snuggle.

Mannerisms

How do they concern or terrify people who do not know them? -- Tyriel tends to materialize suddenly from the background of any situation. People don’t notice him until he touches or speaks to them and that can be very startling.

History

Han and Tyriel were created as part of the same fledgling cohort. They bonded intensely during that time and remained assigned together, even as Han rose in the ranks and Tyriel's training took him in different directions. Once Han was appointed an angelic Agent, he insisted on Tyriel's being awarded the same rank and they became one of the best recon/assassin teams in the angelic host.

Shared Secrets

Their relationship is much deeper than the typical fledge mate bond. They are intimately bonded, though neither has admitted his awareness of this to the other.

Tyriel was part of one of Rafael's fledgling cohorts. Rafael took a shine to the quieter fledgling and spend a lot of time teaching him observation techniques and social manipulation.
