Rafael and Gabriel were raised by Wayin in one of the first angelic fledgling cohorts. They were closer than most of the other fledglings, except for Rafael and Azarael, but not close enough to bond as rishkim.

Rafael calls Gabriel "Gabe" frequently, especially when he's frustrated. Gabriel calls Rafael "Ray" or "brother."
Relationship Reasoning
Historically, Rafael has been the first person Gabriel comes to when he's made a mistake. Rafael is particularly good at calming his brother down when he's panicking and usually helps him solve the problem with compassion and fondness. Gabriel trusts that Rafael will always take care of him and if something is bothering him, Rafael is the first angel on Gabriel's speed-dial.

History
Gabriel started out life doing everything in his power to be just like his bethki, Azarael. Mostly, this intensely annoyed Azarael, especially as they grew older and the fledglings sought their own personal identities.

While Gabriel has spent most of existence irritating Azarael, Az has to admit to himself that he does love his brother. Azarael has done a lot to rescue Gabriel out of many self-made problems over the millennia and in spite of his annoyance, they are still family.

Gabriel came to Rafael and Azarael when he realized he had impregnated a nefil, Mariam. These three know that Jeshua is Gabriel's son.
History
Gabriel was given the duty of watching over his accidental son shortly after Jeshua was born. Jeshua only knew Gabriel as a neighborhood friend during his lifespan on Earth and was introduced to him as an archangel in Heaven after his ascension.
