Temples
Temples are geopolitical entities in the Amazon society of Achillonia. Temples function as meritocratic autocracies that govern their own affairs and guard their own territory. There are twelve temples, and together they form the confederated state that is Achillonia.
A temple is ruled by a Primarch, an autocrat that is selected from amongst the populace by trial after the previous ruler dies or steps down. Any female citizen can take the trial. Once selected, the Primarch rules with absolute authority, but must nonetheless be careful not to cause discontent. There is no formal governmental cabinet -- the Primarch is free to name for herself as many or as few advisors as she wishes.
Below the rank of Primarch, the citizenry of a temple is divided into two classes: the Exarchs and the Atricians. Exarch is an honorary title given only to the most accomplished individuals, and their opinions are greatly respected by the rest of society. Atrician is the base rank of citizen.
