  Pirate ambush Water Cycle Day 2  

The Plan

Current (get it? current?) Day: Water Cycle Day 3, smooth sailing.   crew interactions, Game Night p151, mandatory cat Rowl aboard. Bertold (halfling, burly), Seabastion (triton, flirt), Barney (muscled half-elf who always seems to lose his shirt). person negoatiated with—Edma (human female)—is not the captain. captain does not appear until the ritual is ready to start.   Ritual you say? what the heck is that? Tradition aboard the Maelstrom Avenger *wink*. You'll know it when you see it. Though might be best if you wait below deck. Wouldn't want someone getting tossed off the side and lost to the clutch of water.   But that night is when the "ritual" happens.   Pulses of blue ethereal light get closer and closer; motes of water magic. The crew straps themselves into leashed harnesses, the lengths seem long enough to traverse most of the top deck but short enough to keep them from falling fully overboard. Works on a continous clipping system, to avoid tangles as much as possible (though tangles are still common).   A sense of unnatural calm starts to settle over the crew, DC 10 Sanity save. On failure, they feel the irresistible pull of the depths. Blissful silence. A deep sleep. Complete rest. A cure for all the aches and pain. Sil'Ferrous recognizes this tugging back from the water temple.   It's literally a fight to close a water rift, left over from the increased water magic from last cycle. The captain and crew make it their personal responsibility to close these as they travel.   Captain Mael (Warlock of the Fiend) comes out from quarters as the ship sails straight to the heart of the whirlpool. Secretly a Tielfing, is trying to hold Alter Self (at will). Tall, but not necessarily muscular. Looks human with short black hair oiled down, deep brown eyes, warm and dangerous smile, dark skin. Tiefling form is deep indigo, horns lying flat and sweeping back along the scalp, eyes pools of black. Warlock of Graz'zt (rival demon lord of Korinth).   Korinth quivers excitidly at the presence of the captain.   The ship shudders at it begins to get pulled in by the whirlpool created by the rift. The rift seems to be both sucking in and ejecting water, sucking one side and ejecting the other, swirling. Most of the ambient light is from the motes of water, but the most ethereal and "still" of the light is leaking from the rift.   Defend Mael as he closes the rift. His magic is strange, and with an arcana DC 10/15 recognized as what Kallista can do, / but his seems stronger and more focused, though volatile.   Combat. Sounds feels muffled.   End of combat, the motes start to dissipate, sound feels louder and the feeling of the ocean offering bliss ends.   Crew's attitude can change depending on how the fight went and if captain was a bit outted.   Water Cycle Day 4, Dawn, arrive in Himmgulhavon.
