20.0 - Awakening

Plot points/Scenes

Riner Ånd in Sight

As you near the center, the feeling of radiant and necrotic energy is tangible, nearly suffocating. In one moment you feel invigorated and the next you feel drained. It's exhausting to walk through. But the water gives way to more stable ground, and plant life gives way to only branchless, curved, white trees all spaced around a small raised mound. The center; which you'd think would have the sun pouring light into this area, but it remains dark and murky with the only substantial light coming from pulsing motes of radiant energy hanging the air.   Holg feels the pulse of the energy seed quicken, getting stronger as he approaches the mound in the center. As he stand in the center, there is a flash of blinding light. When everyone looks, Holg is gone.

Holg

Holg finds himself in a black, dark and cloudy ring. The only source of light is a beam shining down on a spear stabbed into the ground. As he crosses the threshold into the light, a voice resonates in the air. "Seek, you, further harm, and receive death." This comes from the guardian of the seal. Which is a set of spooky, nebulous eyes looming at him from across the "clearing". The guardian is based on a nightwalker.   The spear's haft is pure, condensed blackness. The tip is composed of pure, condensed light. After a history check DC 10, it's Vira's spear, but you know, composed of darkness and light. Once Holg grabs it and pulls it out of the earthen tablet it's impaled, it dissipates into smoke. The broken fragments begins mending in a swirl of brownish-red and blue-violet. Once the seal is fixed, there's a definitive pop of magical pressure. The black mists form into a Nightwalker shape. "The seal is fixed, and now I can return. But your world still bleeds. Ånd must be restored; Energy herself must be restored. Lest we meet again in the Amalgamation."   The Nightwalker dissolves and Holg falls from the light into darkness. He finds himself face to face with Ånd (just her face really).   With deep-socketed eyes and broad nasal openings, a black dragon's face resembles a skull. Its curving, segmented horns are bone-colored near the base and darken to dead black at the tips. A black dragon's head is marked by spikes and horns. Its tongue is flat with a forked tip.   "Foreigner, you have relieved me of my torment and restored my heart. My body regenerates; our time is limited. I intend to not die a second time. Would you assist me? Become my champion and bury Vira and her ilk to feed the worms?"   If Holg disagrees, Ånd dips her head in thanks and then fades. If Holg agrees, Ånd takes a claw and stabs Holg in the heart, then breathes out her dark cloud crackling with light "attack" that suffuses Holg. Ånd removes her claw and the wound and the eneryg around Holg gets sucked into it, healing it and leaving a black mark across his chest. It's not perfectly framed on his chest; you can see bits wrapping on his arms and poking up around his neck.   Ånd's form disappears and Holg is once again in darkness for a moment before he wakes on the muddy ground in front of Ånd.

Everyone else

Holg is no where to be found. Everything around them freezes and is eerily quiet; any motes that were drifting about freeze in place. Touching things does move them, but they are slow like they are moving through honey or syrup.   Once the seal is fixed, there's a definitive pop of magical pressure.   The air trembles as the branchless trees begin to rise from the ground. The mist clinging to the ground swirls into shades of black and white as it rises and starts clinging to the stark trees. The ground lifts, more mist condesnsing and starting to solidify under their feet. It forces/shunts them several feet away (15ft ish).   The clinging mist solidifies around the "trees" and starts to form muscle and flesh, thickening to hard, black scales on the outside. Four thick legs form, and the underbelly scales turn white. Razor talons top the claws as a tail swings out from the mass. A head, angular and bony-like, shakes its way into form from the mist, curved ivory horns glinting in the spotted light. Deep eyes of pitch black stare down at you and wide nostrils flare with its first breath. It unfurls massive black and white wings and bellows.
Holg reappears in front of Ånd, as Ånd is fully regenerated.   And right behind the group, Omdanne makes her appearance. She looks much stronger than even the first time they met her. She's a little taller, about 6ft, and standing proud. She congratulates the party and thanks them. Question time! Once questions are done, Omdanne will encourage them to continue on, either to Riner Ild or Riner Natur, but Ild is closer. Herself and Ånd will be enough to harry the Servitor from directly following them. But Omdanne has learned that mortals have a nasty habit of circumventing her intentions. The Servitor will undoubtedly have others that slip past her and Ånd in order to try and stop the party.   And remember, all "energy" related things will no longer work (except for Holg if he agreed). They can feel a very faint connection to something, but it doesn't feel the same as normal and it'll take a lot of concentration to call forth the same spell/ability, and even then, it's now got the characteristics of that distorted, greasy magic.
