Rue de Soif

Demographics

The majority of locals living and carousing along Hent Mikael are Bediz, with Teuz following close behind, a collection of city craftsmen and traveling farmers. The district, despite being largely mundane, is nevertheless a popular destination for Korrigan and Sidhe patrons looking to take part in the districts many bars and brothels. Paolig, Poulpiquet and Tohoseguéannets are regular patrons of the region and maintain a near constant presence on both sides of the bars.

Government

Located within the city walls of Lower Roazhon, the district falls under the direct authority of the Count of Roazhon, although more often it is managed by a lower administrator. For the most part, the raucous alleyways of the Street of Thirst are beneath the notice of the Goldhill nobles, and is left to its own devices, so long as taxes are paid and disreputable elements are confined to the district. The Coquillard criminal organization has a heavy presence here, operating both legitimate and illicit business in the district, taking advantage of the lack of oversight to carve out a plum quarter, running the bars, brothels and gambling dens. Most city watch in the area are paid by the Coquillard, furthering the thieves' guild's power in the district.

Industry & Trade

The local saying concerning the Hent Mikael is "a new bar every seven metres" and indeed, that seems to be the case, with the tight street packed with all manner of taverns, public houses, gambling dens and brothels. Side alleyways are less reputable, filled with drug dens, black market stalls and prostitution. Only the truly depraved, desperate or dumb wander the back streets of the district after the glow-orbs are dimmed for the evening.   A number of inns let out rooms on the upper floors, given the proximity to the gates and a main road, allowing those locked inside after a night of revelry to sleep off their stupor.

Infrastructure

The district stretches along a north-south axis from the city gate, also called the Beggar's Gate to the Places des Lices, a large plaza supporting a regular open air market.

History

Rue de Soif was once an Imperial Road, leading through the "Beggar's Gate" in the city wall towards Sant-Maloù

Architecture

The actual Hent Mikael is not particularly large, only 90 meters long, although the spiritual borders of the disrict expand slightly beyond it in all directions. Hent Mikael is perfectly straight for its length, offering a direct corridor of cobblestones from one end to the other, flanked on each side with half-timbered buildings rising 4 or 5 stories into the air.

Geography

Hent Mikael is located on a flat ridge overlooking the lower city and river, next to a fortified gate leading out of the north of the city.
