Muldumarec Artegall

Caballos Muldumarec Artegall (a.k.a. The Golden Falcon, Hawk-Knight)

Muldumarec Artegall - The Champion of the Court of Summer and leader of the Alliance.

Physical Description

Body Features

Muldumarec was generally slender and fair, often mistaken for a woman because of their androgynous looks. Despite this, they have a lean, muscular build, honed from their active lifestyle.

Special abilities

Muldumarec had the power to shapeshift, most notably into the goshawk, which granted them the power of flight. Additionally, they could use their power to take on the forms of other similarly sized humanoids. For the most part, this latter was merely used to alter their own body to match their needs and moods, rather than adopting the appearance of others.

Specialized Equipment

Chrysaor is the golden sword of Muldumarec, the blade tempered with adamant, allowing it to cleave through anything.   Muldumarec also held the 4 Treasures of the Tuatha De Danann, the sword Fragarach , the bloodthirsty spear Gae Assail, the kingmaking stone Lia Fáil and the Coire Ansic, the ever-flowing cauldron. These were used in the aid of the Alliance of the Broceliande, but were lost with the Hawk-Knight's death at Tor Mór.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Born a Prince of the Faerie Kingdom of Caerwent, a vassal of Logres, Muldumarec lived in the unending luxury of the Fortunate Isles, but grew tired of their life of leisure and instead dedicated themselves to learning the art of combat. The Prince excelled at their martial talents, becoming a beloved champion of the Hastiludes. They entered the service of Manannán mac Lir, the Castellan of Tír na nÓg, rising to the rank of sergeant-at-arms. They led the defense of the Golden Citadel during an assault by Formorian King Conand mac Febair under the sigil of a golden goshawk, beheading the giant with their magic sword. The defense of Tír na nÓg brought him to the notice of Caelia, the Queen of Summer, who rewarded them with the ability to shapeshift into several forms, the most notable of which was the goshawk, which became their symbol, as well as the guardianship of the 4 Treasures of the Tuatha de Danaan.   Muldumarec was sent to Gwened, a newly formed petty kingdom on the Armorican Peninsula, to oversee the Court of Summer's interests in the region. With little direction from Caelia, Muldumarec declared themself a knight-errant and the defender of the Mor Bihan, placing the inland sea, its ships and villages under their protection from sea monster, pirates and raiders, both Bediz and Fae. Taking their goshawk form, Muldumarec would patrol the skies looking for signs of trouble, swooping down and landing in the fray in their elven form to defend the helpless. Their exploits soon earned them the attention of King Waroch I of Gwened, who invited the knight to his court.   Shortly after arriving in the Ermine City, the Hawk-Knight found themselves challenged by Talus, the first Brassgaurd. The two fought, but neither could gain an edge over the other. Evenly matched, the pair eventually became close friends and adventuring companions, protecting Gwened and the Mor Bihan. One such foray led them to the town of Kemperle, across the border in Kernev , where Muldumarec was challenged to single combat by Britomart, the descendant of High King Gradlon Mwar and the Champion of Kernev, who defeated the Hawk-Knight. Upon seeing her remove her helmet, revealing her great beauty and long golden hair, Muldumarec fell in love with the knight. The three adventured together for a time, but would soon be forced apart by circumstances beyond their control.   Muldumarec's life was thrown into chaos with the rise of Conomor the Cursed, whose campaign of carnage dragged the region into a bloody war. The internal machinations of the Gwened royal family weakened the Kingdom against Poher's aggression and Muldumarec sought out the aid of Caelia. To the knight's shock, the Summerqueen refused to lend assistance to the Bediz against the Black Dog and his Formorian allies. Angered, Muldumarec seized the 4 treasures and returned to Breizh to find Waroch had been deposed by his treacherous son, Bishop Macliau.   Unwilling to sit back and let Conomor continue his bloodbath, Muldumarec traveled the lands, recruiting like-minded champions from the lands, both mundane and magical, threatened by the Black Dog. The Alliance of the Broceliande returned Waroch to the throne of Gwened, ousting Bishop Macliau and turning their sights on Conomor himself. The victory was short lived as Conomor's fleet sacked Gwened and Naoned under the Bloodmoon, wiping out the city and crippling the Alliance. Several members of the group were killed, imprisoned or otherwise compromised, and Britomart was captured by Balor Oneye, the Formorian King allied with the Black Dog. With Gwened defeated, Kernev and Dumnonia fell shortly afterwards, and Muldumarec and their surviving allies were forced to flee to Normaundi   Driven off the peninsula, the Alliance of the Broceliande received aid from two surprising and unlikely allies; the Southern Church and Clovis I, King of Gallia. The Alliance rebounded and struck at the seat Conomor's power in Poher, defeating the Black Dog at the Battle of Relec in 204 SI. Muldumarec learned that Britomart was being held at Balor Oneye's castle at Tor Mór, far to the North of the Fortunate Isles. They raced northwards to rescue her, not knowing she was pregnant with their child, leaving Armorica for the last time. Their goshawk form allowed them to avoid the patrols of the Formorian guards and reach the high tower in which their beloved was imprisoned. But as they reached the window, Balor's trap was sprung, iron spikes impaling Muldumarec's wings, mortally wounding the Hawk-Knight. But with their death, the golden sword, Chrysaor fell from their clutched talons. Britomart fought her way out of the tower to freedom, before giving birth to a son while escaping on a longship piloted by the survivors of the Alliance.

Gender Identity

Nonbinary. While born a biological male, Muldumarec's gift of shapeshifting allowed them to take different forms, reflecting the Hawk-Knight's own fluid identity, taking male and female forms based on situation and mood.   While this identity is preserved in the oral tradition of the Fae, most Bediz accounts of the Prince and their alliance identify Muldumarec as male.

Sexuality

Pansexual. Throughout their life, Muldumarec took partners of various genders and sexes. However, their greatest love was for the warrior knight Britomart, who bore the Hawk-Knight's child after their death.

Morality & Philosophy

Muldumarec had a strong and unusually straightforward sense of morality, eschewing the typical Fae outlook of disconnected causality. It is thought that Muldumarec may have been an early case of Time Madness, although the condition had not been named or qualified at the time of their life. Muldumarec lived according to a knightly code, defending the helpless and weak, punishing the wicked and standing up for perceived rights, even at the expense of prestige or power. Loyal to their friends and those under their protection, Muldumarec turned their back on both the Court of Summer and Gwened when they would not stand up to Conomor.
