Bloodmoon

The Bloodmoon is a rare, but dramatic, form of Bleed that occasionally appears in localized skies above Alvez. While the most prominent effect is the manifestation of a second, rust-red full moon in the skies, the Bloodmoon Bleed is accompanied by a number of other anomalous conditions:

Temporal Anomalies

During its manifestation, the Flow of Time is greatly altered, shifting from Chronos (measured time) to Kairos (experienced time), built upon adrenaline and feelings of dread, terror and rage. Measuring the time that passes within a Bloodmoon's influence with standard measurements is all but impossible, with accounts ranging from a few hours to several days. Time inside the manifestation may travel slower or faster than the outside world, or seem to stop entirely, with the region returning to the same moment that the event began.

Drez/The Brambles

In addition to the appearance of the Bloodmoon itself and changes to the sky and weather (See: Manifestation), the environment within the region will often be warped and altered. These changes are often called Drez, or the Brambles. Familar areas become twisting mazes of hedgerows and alleyways, winding around in seemingly impossible and contradictory paths, full of sudden dead ends and new openings, even in previously explored areas. Drez continues to change throughout the event, warping whenever not observed. Inhabited and watched spaces do not change, but once "out-of-sight, out-of-mind", they may be dramatically altered. Architecture and plantlife retain their distinctive characteristics, but may appear in unfamiliar patterns, with new buildings, larger trees and thorny brambles appearing over the area. Structures within the Drez appear more run down, neglected and overrun by plantlife, often blending built and wilderness environments throughout. The Drez is more pronounced upon attempting to leave an area through the thick Feth Fiada, with the Bloodmoon seeming to deposit those attempting to do so back where they began their flight.   The Drez typically vanishes once the Bloodmoon subsides, but in extreme cases, the region within will often appear long deserted, with houses in ruin from neglect and overgrown with thick vegetation, if any evidence of settlement remains at all. It is not uncommon for structures, objects and individuals to vanish during a Bloodmoon, reappearing in deep Faerie or far off in the world, if at all. This translocation side effect is thought by many to be the cause of Garwaf and Abhartach appearances in new areas

The Garwaf

Easily the most feared and dangerous aspect of the Bloodmoon is its link to the Garwaf. Regions affected by the Bloodmoon note an increased number and severity of active garwaf, with affected creatures transforming into their fully manifested forms, often driven into a frenzy. The condition's contagiousness is heightened during this time and the full manifestation of its effects reduced to mere minutes, allowing for defenders to join in with their growing pack as positions are overrun. Whole settlements can be turned or destroyed in a manner of hours.

Other Inhabitants of the Bleed

The Garwaf are joined by other creatures of the Faewylde, such as the shadowy Bleizh-Noz Sluagh and Abhartach. The Ar Chase Gouez, which revels in the chaos and destruction caused by the event, seeks out instances of the Bloodmoon for their hunt, traveling with the wind to join in.

Manifestation

Initial and Secondary Manifestations

A Bloodmoon Bleed initially manifests as a Red Wind blowing in from the SSE, vibrant aurora-like ribbons dancing across the sky, carrying with them the scent of blood, growing from a light breeze to a howling tempest capable of ripping up trees and blowing shingles off of roofs. Witnesses often claim that this wind also carries the sounds of a spectral horn, blasting three times and the baying of hounds. The sky becomes a dull red, similar to a dust storm, before darkening to a starlit night. Wisps of Feth Fiada curls up from the ground and forms thick, roiling banks on the outskirts of the affected area.   During this time, a the bloodmoon itself will manifest in the sky, occasionally rising quickly from the horizon or appearing behind banks of dark clouds. The sky is always clear and filled with stars, but it has been noted that the position and appearance of these celestial bodies is often not consistent with the position or appearance of the surrounding region or the time of year. The exact details seem to vary slightly by region, and have proven difficult to measure accurately. In Northern Kornôgel, the stars have been identified as being consistent with mid-Kerzu (See: Wheel of the Year ).

The Bloodmoon

The Bloodmoon manifests in the sky above a localized area as a rust-red full moon. Despite appearances, it is not a natural astronomical event, but rather a localized expression of a Faewylde Bleed, similar to a Wyldstorm. The size of the Bloodmoon appears to be subjective, with accounts of the same manifestation describing the moon with a variety of sizes and brightnesses.   The manifested moon is often described as a reflection, distorted by atmospheric conditions, of Bedouar's primary moon, with similar shadows and markings, appearing a distance away from the primary moon. The Bloodmoon is always full, regardless of the appearance of the mundane moon during its manifestation.

Localization

Unlike Wyldstorms, which can strike large areas along the coast similar to a mundane storm, the Bloodmoon is incredibly localized, often constrained within boundaries of Kalvar or natural markers, with life outside the affected area carrying on as normal, noting only a reddish tint to the skies.   Entering an area under the bloodmoon is relatively easy, with Feth Fiada growing thicker and darker as one progresses, emerging into the moonlit night on the other side. Retreat is considerably more difficult, but not impossible.
