Errant Knife

The Errant Knife was a small windship operating in the Pleg-mor Gwaskogn in the early 1200s SI, as a smuggler and pirate ship, taking part in the intercontinental Slave Trade. Contracted by the Coquillard Criminal organization, the Errant Knife was to transport kidnapped noblewoman Kathalia Bisclavret from Aleth to the Petty Kingdom of Nekor, under captain Camus Bour.   Arriving in Port De La Lune after a string of piracy along the Akitanian coast, some of the crew learned of a great treasure lost in the the Shatterlands, a map providing easy pickings to wealth that far outweighed the value of the few slaves and smuggled goods the ship carried. The captain, sensing opportunity, changed course, directing the ship into the Bleed. Incompetence and a string of bad luck culminated in a successful, but costly mutiny. The captain and his followers were marooned on a small island in the Shatterlands as the Errant Knife sailed out of the cursed lands. Unable to return northwards, the ship continued to operate as an independent pirate company in the Mor Kreizdouar, attracting the attention of the Urzh Kroashent, who dispatched the Saracen Paladin Ai'Sha min Iram to hunt them down. As the undercrewed vessel, raced ahead of the Veilwatcher ship, Kathalia and the other prisoners, some slaves, other nobles held for ransom, plotted their own course, taking advantage of the confusion and lesser manpower after the mutiny. After a chase of several days, the ship was driven into a Wyldstorm. As the ships crashed together, Kathalia made her move, seizing the weapon's locker and swarming over the deck. The mutineers, overwhelmed quickly surrendered. Impressed by Kathalia's resolve and strategy, Ai'Sha offered the girl a chance to join the Order. Between the looming spectre of her bethrothal and the threat of the Friheps and the chance of adventure on the high seas with the dashing paladin she had quickly become smitten with, Kathalia leapt at the opportunity and signed on with the Crossroads Knights, traveling with Ai'sha to Maleth.   The Errant Knife, badly damaged in the storm, was towed to Maleth, where it was rebuilt and sold to a mercantile concern. Camus Bour and the surviving pirates, having made their way out of the Shatterlands, hijacked the vessel in Serenissima, returning northwards to the Duchy of Letha. The ship is used primarily in small-scale smuggling operations and piracy in the Mor Breizh.
