Vel (Vɛl)
Graceful, Intelligent, Perceptive. These are the hallmarks of the Vel, the Elven races of Alterra. Their tie to Mana is strong, making them excellent magic users, but the divisions between their cultures run deep. Vel make up for what they lack in physical power with clever wit and dexterity. Ranging from cities, to forests, to caverns, the three Vel cultures are the Aeovel who preside over the lofty Vel cities, the Myrenvel preferring their deep wooded sanctuaries, and the Zinvel dwelling in the deep parts of the subterranean Shadow Roads.
Types of Vel:
Aeovel
Aeovel are the least secluded of all the Vellen cultures. They have a major presence in the world and grand cities of their own. While all Vel are adept with Mana, Aeovel are particularly talented in the use of it. By sword, bow, or spell, Aeovellians can be fierce fighters- but they tend to prefer diplomacy over bloodshed. Rest assured, if ever one has a question, no matter how obscure, an Aeovellian somewhere will know the answer.Myrenvel
Myrenvel are the Vellen dwellers of the deep forests of Alterra. Little is known of their culture to outsiders as they are rarely seen straying from their wooded sanctuaries. However, their deadly reputation, especially with bows, precedes them. Myrenvellians tend to prefer to work alone when they can, but are a very welcome addition to any adventuring team.Zinvel
Zinvel are the most mysterious of all the Vel. They make their home in the cold reaches of the Shadow Roads, which run beneath the lands of Alterra. The history of the Zinvel is murky and the other two Vellen races hold a deep contempt for their Zinvel counterparts. Most refuse to speak of the circumstances that created the rift and drove the Zinvel underground. However, the Zinvellians have adapted to their harsh home and they are particularly dangerous when shrouded in darkness.Cities and Townships:
