Aeovel

Aeovellians are the least secluded of the Vellen cultures, having a presence felt the world over. While all Vel are adept with Mana, Aeovel are particularly skilled. By sword, bow, or spell, Aeovellians can be fierce fighters- though they prefer to talk issues through rather than shed blood much like their Imperial Human counterparts. Rest assured, if ever one has a question, no matter how obscure, an Aeovellian somewhere knows the answer.

Dress

Most Aeovel dress in quality clothes, almost akin to Imperials, though perhaps even more ostentatious. They wear familial crests and trinkets, such as signet rings, pins, or brooches to honor their lineage, which is very important to an Aeovel. Most Aeovellians like to dress in flashy colors that give a sense of wealth, class, and prestige.

Demeanor

Due to their long lifespans, Aeovel are often patient, prudent, and diplomatic (though as with all races, the young can be restless and immature). While many Aeovellians come off as condescending or pompous, it is due to their long lives and their knowledge and experience that gives them their confidence in their decisions and opinions. While some can be considered vain, more often than not this is a stereotypical perspective from other races when not considering their wisdom and perspective from living for hundreds of years.

Families and Nobility

Aeovel, of Noble blood or otherwise, refer to their lineage as fittingly; Families. There are only 6 Noble Aeovellian Families, and who knows how many otherwise. Each family has a Crest- a symbol that is important to that Family. Of course, Noble Family Crests are more ornate and recognizable than the rest, but to each given Family, their own Crest in particular is no less precious. Some of the Families in Aeovel culture work in accordance with the Noble Families. While others operate independently. No matter the purpose or place in the world, nearly all Aeovel strive to improve at least themselves and their own Families, if not their people as a whole.

Playing an Aeovel

  • All Vel must wear Elven Ear prosthetics of some kind. If you’re unsure if your elven ears are acceptable- please contact the Director.
  • Aeovel are expected to follow the costuming outlines in this document, but can vary for character appropriate reasons. Additionally, it is not explicitly required, but is HIGHLY encouraged to have and wear a Crest on their clothing to represent their Family as an Aeovel.
  • There are 6 Noble Aeovellian Families:
  1. Aurindellion Family - Known for their skill with the Supernatural Aspects of Arcane, Light, and Void. The Aurindellion family are expert casters and have close ties with the clergy and churches among the Aeovellian people.
  2. El’Enzar Family - Known for their martial prowess, the El’Enzar family is one of the primary authorities on war and strategy. Often referred to on matters of conflict with aggressors both foreign and domestic.
  3. Il’Caeros Family - Known for their craftsmanship, while not able to make armor like a Fenn-Thol, weapons like a Drinn-Thol, or jewelry like a kus-Thol, their skill in these trades is none-the-less impressive. Their achievement in Inscription is, however, unmatched.
  4. Silvaril Family - Known for their marksmanship, stealth, and stoicism, this family operates a network of information across much of Alterra.
  5. Galendria Family - Known for their prowess with the four Natural Aspects, this family has close ties with the Mages Guild both inside and outside of their people’s borders.
  6. Lindorieth Family - Known for their scholarly achievements and vast libraries holding untold knowledge, it is said no answer or truth is too far out of their reach.
  • A player character may never be Nobility, and may therefore never be from one of these Families- nor bear their Crest.
  • Aeovellian birth names are often classically Tolkien in nature- if it sounds Elvish, with soft, flowing phonetic sounds, it will likely pass as an Aeovellian name.
  • Some examples of Aeovellian names, which work for all Vellen cultures might be Korrin, Heilomir, Cassendria, or Tineldriel.
  • Surnames are much the same, but may or may not include apostrophes, such as some listed above.
  • Aeovellian Familial Crests are usually somewhat ornate but never to the extent of the Noble Families. They may incorporate one, sometimes two elements that are important to the Family, such as to symbolize their motto or accomplishments or specialties (like a bow if the Family is known for their archers and marksmanship).
  • These Crests are usually worn quite visible, and can vary in size from a 1.5 inch by 1.5 inch lapel embellishment, to a full back of coat detail.
  • If you wish to join an existing Family, or create your own, please contact the Director to discuss options. Simply making up your own last name is fine and will be considered to be an in-world Aeovellian Family somewhere in the world.
  • Aeovel like to dress in clothes that reflect quality, status, or at least the idea they have class and are put together; similar to Imperial Humans. They may wear jewelry, trinkets, many accessories, and their garb may be of louder colors with either flashy or subtle accents to denote their heritage.
  • Aeovellians tend to be wise, though may come off condescending depending on context or topic. They can, of course, be ignorant or know nothing of a given topic, but their culture values study and knowledge as well as the ability to apply that knowledge well.
  • Some Aeovel may have flashier colored hair- but not as many as the Zinvel, though definitely more than the Myrenvel are likely to.
  • Whilst the Aeovel are naturally gifted with applications of Mana and spellcraft, that doesn’t mean they cannot be apt archers or swordsmen.
  • Aeovellians usually treat most other Races similarly, save for Myrenvel whom they tend to look down upon, and Zinvel whom they detest outright; and of course Goblinoids, who are distrusted by most of the population of Alterra.
  • Aeovel hail from one of two regions: Aeoleyn’Mir and Kydosu’Mir. Of course, Aeovel can be found all over the world, but those are the primary territories held by the Aeovel lands where their capital is- as well as where most live and come from.
  • Aeovellian society is highly political, and people are always trying to improve their station and standing within that society. Rumors are always floating here and there about someone or something for one reason or another. SOME may be ruthless or cutthroat about this, but it doesn't mean everyone is constantly stepping on or sabotaging one another for some personal gain. Simply that the Aeovel talk and listen carefully a lot of the time, similarly to the Kus-Thol and Zinvel.
  • All Vel mature around age 25, and live to be between 250-300 years of age.
