Myrenvel

The forest dwelling Vel, the Myrenvellians, are a reclusive people. Rarely seen outside of their deep wooded sanctuaries, little is known of this culture. However, most know at the least that a Myrenvel is a force to be reckoned with when wielding a bow, even more so in a wooded area. Not overly gregarious, Myrenvellians will work alone when able, but are a welcomed asset to any adventuring team.

Dress

Myrenvel prefer to wear natural colors which aid them in blending into their forest surroundings. Their armors are often more natural hides and leathers than metal, since metal shines. However they also will look to gain every advantage in a given situation and will not shy away from wearing proper armor when appropriate as long as it doesn’t impede their movement; dexterity is key. They will adorn themselves with parts of creatures for various reasons- be it to honor that which they hunt, or intimidate others.

Demeanor

Though many Myrenvel are somber, stoic, secluded, some have taken to the world outside their forest homes with child-like wonder. Seeking to see every city, village, temple, and tower, as well as interact with every soul they come across- though this is rare for their culture. And while Myrenvel prefer a bow in their hands- they are fierce in any form of combat, and should never be underestimated.

Families and Nobility

The Myrenvel do not overly concern themselves with politics as a whole, and hold experience and accomplishment in the highest regard within their culture. Yet, there are 4 Bloodlines of the Myrenvel which are considered of Noble birthright. Regardless of nobility, all Myrenvellian Bloodlines have a particular Adornment which is like their form of heraldry or crest. Perhaps one Bloodline all wear a necklace bearing 7 animal fangs. Another still may wear a pauldron on their left shoulder, made of alligator hide. The Adornment is important to the Bloodline who bears it, and respect is given between all Myrenvel in regards to each one.   If a Myrenvel were to marry into a noble house they would take on the surname of the noble family. Those not of nobility are free to choose which surname they adopt when they marry. This tends to reflect newly married couples choosing the surname between them that means the most or is more impressive.

Playing a Myrenvel

  • All Vel must wear Elven Ear prosthetics of some kind. If you’re unsure if your elven ears are acceptable- please contact the Director.
  • Myrenvel are expected to follow the costuming outlines in this document, but can vary for character appropriate reasons. Additionally, it is not explicitly required, but is HIGHLY encouraged to have and wear an Adornment as a Myrenvel.
  • There are 4 Noble Myrenvellian Bloodlines:
  1. Cael’Adorah Bloodline - Masterful archers, trackers, and skilled with befriending and training animals, their Adornment is 4 wolf tails, worn on one shoulder.
  2. Ser’Lucarin Bloodline - Known for their perception (keen eyesight and hearing, as well as smell), and soft footedness (ability to move quietly and avoid being tracked), their Adornment is three smaller bird skulls strung together and openly displayed.
  3. Mir’Ondore Bloodline - Known for their athleticism, endurance, ferocity, and for operating the treeborn scouting network, their Adornment is prominent feathers from birds of prey worn in their hair.
  4. Bos’Renatose Bloodline - Known for their wisdom, foresight, skill with alchemy and doctoral capabilities, their Adornment is a pair of deer antlers, usually worn as a headdress by males or a mental upon the shoulders by females.
  • A player character may never be Nobility, and may therefore never be from one of these Bloodlines- nor bear their Adornment.
  • Myrenvellian birth names are often classically Tolkien in nature- if it sounds Elvish, with soft, flowing phonetic sounds, it will likely pass as an Myrenvellian name.
  • Some example Myrenvellian names, which works for all Vellen cultures might be Indaria, Presylin, Raethos, or Malinenira.
  • Surnames are much the same, but always include apostrophes, such as those listed above.
  • Myrenvellian Adornments are always made from some part or parts of an animal, worn on their person and displayed proudly. These choices usually reflect some aspect of a Bloodlines philosophy, accomplishments, or goals.
  • These Adornments are usually worn quite visible, and can vary in form, similarly to the descriptions given above. Please discuss your choice of Adornment with the Director prior to entering play with one.
  • If you wish to join an existing Bloodline, or create your own, please contact the Director to discuss options. Simply making up your own last name is fine and will be considered to be an in-world Myrenvellian Family somewhere in the world.
  • Myrenvel like to dress in earth-toned clothes which might help them blend into their forest surroundings. Armor they wear is generally made of natural things like leather, hides, or bone rather than metals; this doesn't mean they WON'T wear metal, just that they lean away from it. They value a mix of protection and freedom of movement when moving through the wilderness.
  • Myrenvellians tend to be stoic, though may come off distant or unapproachable depending on the situation. They can, of course, be sociable and friendly, but their naturally reclusive nature tends to make them less open to others who are not Myrenvel themselves.
  • Unlike the Zinvel or Aeovel, it is rare to see a Myrenvel with an unnatural hair color. However, many will paint markings on their face- especially when going into battle or hunting, though some wear these markings all day.
  • Myrenvel are naturally more in tune with nature than the other types of Vel. They find peace and perform best when in these settings, though they can and will learn to live in more city settings from time to time.
  • Myrenvellian society is not necessarily primitive, but it does tend towards more simple or natural methods. Respect is shown to elders of all Races (though maybe less Goblinoid or Zinvellian, and slightly less to Aeovellian). They seek to preserve nature and their way of life- stop encroachment and over destruction of the natural places of Alterra, and also seek to not encroach into the more settled areas themselves.
  • Myrenvel may be less accepting of Humans as a whole, as well as have a dislike for Aeovel, and a deep dislike for Zinvel.
  • All Vel mature around age 25, and live to be between 250-300 years of age.
