The Maelstrom of Tears

The Maelstrom of tears is situated in The Sea of Tears, in the north-eastern side of it, near the border of Aberronia. It's not just your ordinary whirlpool, but was born during The Turbulence and its nature is that of magic. No one knows where all the water really goes, what happens to those poor ships that get sucked in if they stray too close to the treacherous waters or the great maelstrom or how it even was formed. The first tales of the Maelstrom begin slightly after the Turbulence, so that is the approximated time it came to be, perhaps during that same magical storm that dried up The Old Sea. Nowadays the Maelstrom and the waters close to it are considered one of the great -and dangerous!- wonders of Altaros and some researchers from various mage towers, for example from the world-renown The Golden Tower of Melanor wish to study it further.

Localized Phenomena

The area of the Great maelstrom is very prone to wild magic storms of various degree. The area is difficult to approach and if one is to do so, they should be well-prepared to encounter even the oddest things they can imagine -sometimes even things that seem to be from beyond the normal understanding, from somewhere else than the known worlds...

Fauna & Flora

The animals around the area seem to be more or less magical; hard to say if they have adapted to their surroundings or if they were mutated during The Turbulence.
