King Doraphen
King Rubius Doraphen
The king of Zorra's Domain. He cares deeply for his subjects and especially loves his daughter Opal. Doraphen is extremely spontaneous which made him an excellent general in his youth. His age is getting to him now and he sometimes forgets how old he is. He relies heavily on his personal advisor, Silvar, to help him make responsible and well thought out decisions.
Doraphen secretly married a human woman named Lona. He kept her human identity secret to protect her from the ridicule of his people and consequently no one actually saw what the queen looked like. Lona and Doraphen tried many times to have children but complications during the pregnancy lead to numerous miscarriages until finally Lona gave birth to Opal. Only three years after Opal’s birth, Lona died tragically at the hands of a Lynal assassin along with Doraphen’s sister Anda. Doraphen does not speak of Lona’s death and has continued to withhold the true identity of Opal’s mother from her and the rest of the kingdom. Only a few close friends know the truth, including Silvar and Targan.
Doraphen refuses to let Opal undergo military training with the spear like her mother. Seeing her train reminds him too much of his loss. Unknown to him, Silvar also had a hand in Doraphen's decision to forbid Opal from training. Silvar was in cahoots with Jabez and wanted to keep the princess vulnerable so he could inherit the throne.
Doraphen initiated the Treaty of Gold after meeting and marrying Lona. The treaty allowed the other nations to enter their borders for the purpose of trade. The people were happy for the rise in economic prosperity, but the conservative Council was generally against it.
