Silvar

Silvar came from the lowest class of the Zorra. A rare condition caused his scales to turn a pale silver color, highly abnormal for the Zorra species. He was teased as a child because of his unusual silver scales and became bitter over his peers' treatment of him. He dedicated his adolescent years to study and education, eventually outperforming everyone who had ever made fun of him to prove he was better than them.   As a young adult, Silvar's ambitious heart and persistent mind earned him a place among the royals. He became close friends with King Rephado and Prince Doraphen and especially close with Princess Miray. His relationship with the princess inevitably grew romantic and the two were engaged. However, the sudden death of the king postponed their marriage and, even more tragically, Miray was killed the morning of their wedding along with Doraphen's wife, Queen Rovo, in a freak attack.   Silvar eventually married Larena and had a son, Triton, but his heart always caries a remnant of his love for Miray. His loyalty to now King Doraphen earned him the position of Chief Councilman in the Zorra High Council and personal advisor to King Doraphen.   He does not want his son, Triton, to inherit the throne since his personal experience trying to do the same came at a great personal cost. Instead he works to cement his legacy in Zorra history and manipulate King Doraphen to fulfill his own agendas.

Appearance and Personality

Silvar's remarkable silver scales are his defining feature, making him stick out like a sore thumb in a crowd, or as the Zorra would say, "Like a whale amongst dolphins". Aside from his color, Silvar is a fairly average Zorra in height and build. His fins and forehead are drooped with age, but his silver eyes still gleam with the energy and activity of youth.   While usually quiet and reserved, Silvar is best known as a powerful orator. His ability to speak persuasively makes him extremely powerful and influencial in the High Council, nearly rivaling King Doraphen in influence over Zorra policies.   Silvar is also known to be incredibly shrewd and incredulous, questioning every opinion presented to him. While his comments are always insightful and thought provoking, the High Council in particular can grow weary of his skepticism when he prolongs their meetings to hours beyond the scheduled time.   Even as a child Silvar was very tenacious. He threw himself into study and research, often providing answers in class that stunned the teacher. His keen mind was critical of everything and his quick eye rarely missed a detail.

Biography

Silvar's growing years were very trying for him. The Zorra are a small community so disappearing into the background was virtually impossible, especially for Silvar. When he would come home from school, he would head straight to his room, curl up in his bed, and cry. At first he cried in self pity, but as the bullying continued despite his parents' best efforts to intervene, his pity turned to anger. He learned to use the anger he felt to power him through many days and nights of dedicated study, learning everything he could about Zorra history, culture, and politics, searching for a way to end his suffering.   His relentless studying propelled him through the Zorra education system and he graduated several years before the customary age. He had finally proven to himself and his enemies that his different scales were not restricting but empowering. But he soon grew restless at seeing all the incosistencies between the Zorra beliefs and their way of life, and his rapid rise to power made him look to the throne.   When Silvar met Princess Miray, he saw her not only as the love of his life, but the key to his ambitions. With his indepth knowledge of Zorra policy, he knew that if he married Miray he would more than likely be the new heir to the throne.   As a young adult, Silvar's ambition for greatness and fame and his exceptional intelligence allowed him to climb the social ladder until he was in regular company with the royals. He became close friends with King Rephado and Prince Doraphen and especially close with Princess Miray. Silvar initaially began to court Miray with the intent of becoming king but he evetually grew to love her.   Silvar saw that King Rephadon would die soon and his chance to become king was fast approuching. He proposed to Miray and they were engaged to be married. But with the death of King Rephadon, Miray chose to postpone the wedding to mourn her father's passing. Doraphen as the eldest child was next in line but he was not yet old enough to assume the crown. Silvar saw this as his chance to inherit the throne. he was of the age to take the crown and if he were to marry Miray he would join the royal lineage and be the rightful heir. He pleaded with Miray to resume the wedding preparations but she was still in grief. Zorra tradition was for the bride to plan the wedding to her liking and Miray was reluctant to do it. She decided to wait until after Doraphen's birthday to schedule the wedding, but by then Doraphen would be crowned king.   Silvar was obsessed with getting the throne. He decided the only way for him to take the throne was to have Doraphen killed. He made arrangements with the Lynal Cerbius to have Doraphen assassinated just days after his marriage to Miray so that he would become king.   Silvar and Miray's marriage was to happen the day after Doraphen's coronation and Silvar grudgingly attended. Miray sensed something was bothering Silvar and questioned him afterwards but he turned aggressive and told her to drop the subject. Miray was worried and enterred Silavr's study that night. She discovered Silvar's plans for Doraphen's assassination and was mortified.   Silvar found that Miray had discovered his plot and couldn’t have her expose him. He overheard Miray frantically making plans with Rovo to meet her and Doraphen to reveal Silvar's secret. Silvar knew if Miray exposed him he would lose everything so he met with Cerbius and ammended his assignment. Cerbius was now to kill Doraphen, Rovo, and Miray.   That night, Silvar was conflicted by his decision and decided to stop his own plot. He intercepted Doraphen on his way to the meeting with Miray and Rovo and told him to bring extra soldiers. Doraphen was confussed but he trusted Silvar and gathered more gaurds as they hurried to the meeting place. When they arrived, they were too late. Miray and Rovo had gotten there early and Cerbius, who had been lying in wait, decided to attack sooner than planned. Silvar and Doraphen arrived in time to see Cerbius kill Rovo. Miray was already dead and Cerbius, seeing the extra guards, fled.   Silvar mourned with Doraphen and by himself for the death of Queen Rovo and Princess Miray. As thanks for saving his life, Doraphen offered Silvar a to be his personal advisor and Silvar accepted. Silvar no longer wanted the throne after seeing what it had cost him. After a few years as Doraphen's advisor, Silvar was offered a position on the Zorra Council and has since been an influential figure in Zorra politics, acheiving his childhood dream of equality amongst the Zorra.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Silvar came from the lowest class of the Zorra and teased as a child by other Zorra children of higher classes because of his unusual silver scales. Silvar grew to hate those children and then to hate the caste system of the Zorra. The Zorra belief that all Zorra were equal, in his eyes, was not being fulfilled by the upper classes. He vowed to somehow become king and correct that error and punish those who had offended him in his youth.   In his later years Silvar came to regret the harsh and cruel tactics he had used to rise to power. He especially regretted putting his desire for the throne over his love for Princess Miray and having her killed. For the last fifty years since Miray's death he has grieved in private, wishing he had never tried to kill Doraphen and by consequence killed Miray.

Personality Characteristics

Motivation

As Doraphen has aged, more and more of the responsibilities of the kingdom have been assumed by Silvar, making him nearly as powerful as the king. Silvar has his own agenda for how the kingdom of the Zorra should be run and how to gain more power. When Princess Gwen comes and offers an alliance between Zorra's Domain and Hilana, Silvar sees it as an opportunity to strengthen his legacy. He vigorously encourages the alliance and is able to convince the Council to side with him because he wants to be revered as the savior of the Zorra. By forming this alliance with the humans, the Zorra would become more powerful and Silvar would take the credit.

Virtues & Personality perks

He is very calculating and methodical in his decision making, being the voice of reason to Doraphen’s voice of action.

Vices & Personality flaws

Silvar is exceptionally cunning. Having failed to marry into the throne in his youth, he continued to rise in power until he became the most powerful Zorra in Zorra’s Domain, second only to King Doraphen. He can very easily sway the minds of the Council and Doraphen to his will.
