Personal history

Early life

Thurimgar was born in Ditchford to a poor family who had a hard time surviving it's hard conditions. His mother was a half orc woman and his father a local cold tiefling. Thurimgar's childhood was short and filled with nothing but strife. At the age of 8 his father was drawn as tribute for Gavuun by The Chosens of Gavuun and thrown into The Mouth as a sacrifice, and his mother died not even a year later as she could not live with what had happened and threw herself after her late husband. Thurimgar had to learn how to survive on his own very early and the loss of his parents made him cold to most. He joined the Hunters of the Frozen Plains which was a guild of hunters in Ditchford. They taught him how to survive in any terrain and to find food, shelter and the most necessary resources to survive, in return he hunted with them and shared his spoils. This was how he lived until he turned 18.

The Journey

Thurimgar became one of the best hunters in the guild and almost a celebrity in Ditchford. But his time there felt wasted and his existence became more and more dull. He decided to leave Ditchford and travel south. He wanted to explore and test himself in other terrain and survival situations, even if it meant putting his life in more danger than what it was in Ditchford. His journey south was difficult and he encountered many dangers during the three month journey before reaching Greenland's end. He found a new civilization there, one made up mostly of elves. He had arrived close to the city Farendale, but he never got the chance to visit as his kind was not accepted there and most people said for him to get lost in the plains of havoc and go east. Thurimgar took the people seriously to their surprise and went east through the plains of havoc, a place so dangerous that even the most experienced adventurers and travelers would rather take the almost one year route around than face what lay within this ancient battlefield.   His journey through the plains of havoc were as most people had told him very dangerous. He faced creatures out of this world and saw sights that could drive any normal person mad. The journey took a toll on him, but made him stronger for it. He encountered some creatures known as sorrowsworn, monsters that were once people who were lost to emotions of depression, loneliness and anger. He felt the energy of the plains fuel his own emotions in these negative ways but managed to shake them off before they got to him like they got to the creatures he had to put down to survive. When he finally saw green grass and a blue sky above him he rejoiced and was relieved. He had learned much from the journey and most importantly to stay humble when evaluating danger.   He continued to travel east until he found a new nation; he had journeyed into the kingdom of Revendell. Unlike Farendale, this place accepted him and he was able to find shelter and a place to relax and refuel before heading out again. He was met by a strange figure in the city before he had managed to leave, it was a humanoid turtle that went by the nickname Blackjack. He asked questions about his past and how he got to Revendell, Thurimgar was suspicious at first but the two got along and he told him his journey so far. By the end of the night the two had traded many stories and Thurimgar learned that Blackjack was the leader of a bounty hunting guild. Thurimgar didn't know what bounty hunting was but the life of a bounty hunter seemed to fit his description so he applied to join and Blackjack took him in.

Mentoring

In A4 644 Thurimgar was out on a job near the small village Dragonvale. He had heard about a group of goblins that had wandered too far east for the Empire's liking and he was sent to take them out. It was no issue for him and he spent the rest of the day at a local tavern. While he stayed there he heard rumors from the bartender of another bounty hunter who also was in the village. He was slightly interested in meeting this person and waited for them to return to the tavern where they had a room. A few hours went by and he met the girl that the bartender talked about, she was an oddly colored dragonborn deserter from Decaris. Her name was Yaxora Tayker and the two got to talking, sharing some stories and bonding a bit. Thurimgar liked her guts, but knew she would not last long if she continued with her methods. Thurmingar begrudgingly asked Yaxora if she wanted to come with him on a bounty to learn, she accepted and the two went on to face down a ghost who had possessed his still breathing wife.   The two ventured together for a few years while Thurimgar taught her how to survive, haggle and fight. He invited Yaxora to be part of Blackjack's bounty hunting guild the Bounty Hunters of Dragged Inn, and she accepted. Everything seemed to go well for them and Thurimgar started to slowly open back up after the trauma that was his childhood and youth. Many months were spent together under open skies in the wilderness with good company and much coin being earned from their success. During a stay in Arnhelm the two learned of a missing person report that had been going on for almost seven years. People traveled into the forest and disappeared. The two agreed to look into it for some coins and were sent in the way of an inn in the woods that was close to where it had been happening. The two headed to Brimstone Inn where they searched around and talked with the customers and staff there. Everyone seemed a bit off and little information was given when asked about these incidents, Thurmingar got very suspicious about the people and decided to take a look in the basement where weird noises could be heard. He went downstairs alone while Yaxora stayed upstairs as a backup. The basement was unnaturally damp and a strong smell of sulfur dominated the air. The basement was dark and Thurmingar couldn't see much in the dark, even with his one good eye. He sensed something down there and moved in close to have a look, he saw something slithering around and pulsing. He got close and saw a big white ooze with faces of people moving around within. He was shocked for a moment before striking at hit yelling for Yaxora's support. The entity was strong, stronger than him and he felt each strike he took not only damaging his body but his mind as well, the battle was going poorly and his screams were not answered by Yaxora. The last thing he heard before everything went black was Yaxora who ran out of the building, leaving him to his demise.

Revenant

Some time after everything went black, Thurimgar found himself still breathing but somewhere unknown and uncomfortable. Everything was still black and he felt pressure on him all over. He begun fighting and trying to reach up from whatever had him contained. He managed to drag himself out of his imprisonment and looked around. He had been buried in a shallow dirt hole behind Brimstone Inn. He had all his things, but felt empty and lost for thought. He walked back to the inn to find nobody there, no ooze, no help and no Yaxora. Her betrayal and cowardice angered him and an unnatural anger and feeling for vengeance came upon him. He grabbed his things and went on to find her as he could not understand fully what had happened to him.   At some point during his travels to find an answer he saw his reflection in a pool. He was terribly scared and weird marks were found around his head. He also did not recognize his own eye as the person looking back at him was not who he thought he was. Memories, personality and opinions were all scrambled and out of place. Because of this he tried to stay away from people on his journey as he was unsure what he would do if he was angered or became impatient as he could not get a grasp on his emotions or his mind. The journey took him to the swamps of Warlough slugh as he had learned of a dragonborn matching Yaxora's description there. When he got there and found her tracks he was too late, he found a shambling mound with her family greatsword inside it. She had perished against it and he was now even more lost and unsure of what to do.   Even more months went by and Thurimgar did not feel any better, he attempted to find someone who knew about his situation or what the creature that attacked him was but he could find no answers. He became more and more desperate to find answers so he returned to Blackjack and asked him for advice on what to do. His old friend was shocked to see him like this but gave him some help. He said that the Venthirs north of Revendell were monster hunters and dabbled in medicine, potions and magic unknown to most people. He believed that might be his best option as nobody else could help. Thurimgar thanked his old friend and went to find the Venthirs.

The Venthir

The journey north was not as difficult as most people said. The Valley of Twilight as it is called is the home of the Venthir organization or as they have been called for the last few ages, monsters. Thurimgar did some research before coming there and knew that at some point the Venthirs were sworn protectors of the people in Revendell and beyond, they were viewed as great heroes of the lands that could fight all types of evil and monsters. But to become this strong they became close to what they killed. Using gruesome rituals and deadly potions to enhance themself. After centuries this practice got revealed to the public and they were viewed as monsters just as bad as those they were sworn to destroy. Thurimgar wanted to see for himself before he made any judgment, but was always on guard just in case.   Thurimgar eventually made his way into the castle known as Fylhorn. The gate was down, but no guards were on patrol so Thurimgar climbed over the walls and made his way into an empty and dead courtyard. There was nobody around and all the inner houses and stores were empty or sacked. The castle doors were slightly open and Thurimgar went to investigate after anyone still remained. He walked through the doors and into an old feasting hall with a massive table that was still intact but much else of the room was in ruin or untouched for years if not longer. He didn't see or hear anyone, but before he could make it far into the room a massive searing pain was felt in his back and he was pushed to the ground. He tried to turn around but someone held him down and put a blade to his throat. The figure asked of his intentions and who he was, Thurimgar knew the position he was in and said everything. The figure lifted the blade and stepped on him, she introduced herself as Cerys Shelak the Master Venthir. She explained how there are still a few of their kind but most are out hunting or on jobs. There are still a few of them, but not many. She also answered his question when he described the creature and what it did to him, it was an Oblex, and a powerful one at that. They eat memories to replicate the person perfectly so that they can go on with their deceptions and continue to feed. Normally they kill their victims after they ingest their memories, but Thurimgar must have gotten lucky and survived. She didn't know how to help him, but said there could be one way to at least help the recovery. If he became a Venthir and went through the transformation it would increase his vitality and regeneration. She also told him that not just anyone could become a Venthir and much training and discipline was necessary to both join their order and survive the transformation. Thurimgar was not one to brag but explained he believed he could survive it, but even if it failed he believed it to be worth the risk. Cerys liked his answer and gave him a few tests that he would go on to complete over the next few months.   The injection of chemicals into Thurimgar was painful, maybe more painful than anything he had ever felt. The pain almost had him fall unconscious, but Cerys told him that is guaranteed death so he stayed awake during the entire experience. These injections are supposed to be done during a child's puberty to work with the body instead of overruling it, but in the case of adults it is much worse. His body was being rewritten piece by piece and a dose ten times what a child would have to go through was given to him to make sure its effect would be permanent and not become a defect. The injection lasted 4 hours and when it was finally done Thurimgar passed out, when he woke up later he felt his new enhanced senses kick in and the scars and marks left by the Oblex were gone. The injection had worked and he was now a Venthir. Cerys was impressed with him and helped him control and manifest his new powers. She also taught him how to use alchemy to further enhance his abilities and how to take them away from others. His abilities were now close to those of Yaxora, as she was a person with powerful blood. He asked about her and what he had seen and learned that she was also a Venthir, a blood hunter, but a much rarer kind. He was saddened that he could not tell Yaxora this.

Reunions

Thurimgar spent two years with the Venthirs, he had found a new family and a new home with them but did miss both the bounty hunters and Yaxora. He had done some contracts on larger foes with his new allies, and over the years he even learnt how to make these formulas to increase his powers himself. News were hard to get in the castle as few people dares venture into the Valley of Twilight and even fewer dares encounter a Venthir. But one piece of information that kept him up at night was the stories of a group of adventurers that had recently returned from a great adventure, and one of them matches Yaxora's description. Thurimgar felt the need to be sure of her situation and left the Venthirs to track her down again. This time to a small village known as Brinehold which served as their home and base of operations. The journey was somewhat tricky because of the dragon in the Stonefields, but he managed to get past it without much problems. When he got to Brinehold he was surprised by what he saw, Yaxora was alive and doing well. He watched her and the people in the village for a few days before he lured Yaxora out into the wilderness by the use of marking arrows. He wanted to test her and see how well she kept up in a battle so he made traps and played the act of her mentor that came to get revenge. She fell for his traps and he defeated her in battle without much issue, and when she believed he was about to end her he instead helped her up and explained that it was a test. The two managed to catch eachother up on what they had been doing and Yaxora invited him into their home to meet her friends and her new adopted daughter Tupp Tayker. He accepted and stayed the night. He met her friends and family in the morning and even sparred with one of her friends who was a bit high on himself. But after the day had gone by he told her about her powers and said he would be in contact in the future and that he would go back to the bounty hunters to continue the work he enjoyed the most.
