Santarii
The Santarii are the elite guards and assassins in the pay of The King in Yellow
As well as guarding the King, they are also sent out as bodyguards to his underlings, such as Jinnow Alladrin, though they serve as much as spies as they do protectors.

The ranks of the Santarii have swollen of late, filled with many ex-soldiers displaced by the Last War, they now number over a hundred.

The Santarii favour knives and poison, they often coat their blades in Blightroot Venom

Training
The Santarii are usually made up of experienced soldiers, often ones who worked as mercenaries. They undergo intense training in stealth, assassination and terror tactics. They learn the close quarters fighting techniques that have made them amongst the most potent fighters throughout history.
The last stage of their training is shrouded in secrecy so that only those in the ranks of the Santarii know.
The last trial for the initiates is to take place in a ritual, which they are told is an ancient blood rite that will empower them, there is a grain of truth to this but in reality, they are infected without their knowledge with various strains of lycanthropy to best suit the needs of their master and enhance their own abilities.
Those who showed most promise with stealth become wererats, the most physically powerful werebears, those who excel in terror tactics are made werewolves while those select few that show special promise, the elite of the elite are made into weretigers.
This last stage, not many survive with their minds in tact, most are driven made by the forcible transformation and lose themselves in their new forms, they are chained up and tortured in the dungeons of the Black Moon Fortress to be used as weapons of last resort.
History
Founded near the beginning of the of the last age, the Santarii have long been whispered about and suspected of many of the most famous assassinations throughout history. Their envenomed blades are thought to have ended kingdoms and ushered in the reign of tyrants to best fit the plans of their shadowed master.
During the Last War, they began to increase in size and visibility, as their numbers grew, their actions became more bold, helping to carve out the space now filled by the King in Yellow's criminal empire.
Since the calamity, they have been the Kings enforcers, sent to watch over and ensure the loyalty of his underlings and to deal with any threats that become too much for them to handle.
