Skalsgrad

A tough unforgiving nation of rocky hills and mountains. Everything thing seems bigger in Skalsgrad, especially the monsters. A former land holding of the Jegorian empire, their lands were often raided for men to fight Jegoria's many wars, their women taken by the foreign lords for their own pleasures. A thousand years before present day, the people of the city overthrew their masters to the West, uniting under the leadership of the warrior-king Draven, who marched his army of hills-men and soldiers alike to the Capital of Jegoria, pillaged the city, burned it down, and marched their way back home, destroying everything in their wake in what has now become known as the Trail of the Dead. After Draven's return however, he was slain, not in combat, but in his sleep by assassins, and the unity the nation found under him soon dissolved, leading the small towns of the country to form a loose confederacy of a government, and the barbarians to return to the hills.
While the various nomadic tribes make their way as raiders and hunter-gatherers, the confederacy of towns is trying to change Skalsgrad for the better, erecting fortifications and farming and the like, but their efforts are hindered by the many raids of monster and man, as well as the lack of a centralized governing body of any authority.
The tribes themselves are still invested in the old ways, spirit worship is still the preferred method of communing with the gods.
