River's Edge

The town of River's Edge is situated in the western portion of The Kingdom of Dhalmass. Formerly known for a great river that the town was situated on, the river has since dried up after The Year of Darkness. While not the powerful city it once was, the town still retains a great castle at its center. Mostly a trade stop on the way to southern nations, the population of the town is mostly comprised of traders and miners from the nearby stone mine.

Government

River's Edge and the surrounding area is run by Lord Taylor Leramore, who is also the Sheriff.

Industry & Trade

  • It is 80 miles (5 days by caravan/wagon or 2 days by horseback) from River's Edge to Nujanat via the highway that cuts between The Broken Twig Forest and The Bluetail Forest.
  • River's Edge sits at the base of The Sparkling Mountain. The Lerramore Mine is about one mile from the southern gate of River's Edge. The Stoutforge Clanhome is five miles up the highway leading into the mountains (about 1 hour via a horse or two hours via a wagon). The village of Fribav is about 24 miles away from River's Edge (2 days via wagon or about 1 day via horseback).
  • Fribav is 48 miles from Sanctuary. (3.5 days via wagon or 1.75 days via horseback)

Infrastructure

  • Adadul Stables: The Abadul stables are on the north side of town, and the Abadul family has been in River's Edge for generations.
  • Blue Dragon Inn: A popular hangout of the local guards and tradesmen, this inn was famous for a large blue dragon skeleton that was the centerpiece of the tavern area, hanging from the ceiling over the patrons. Unfortunately, the inn suffered much damage in the attack on River’s Edge and the Blue Dragon Inn’s skeleton was brought back to life. The owner is a man named Gibson, who is also the bartender. The inn was rebuilt through the combined efforts of the heroes Bob the Bard and Yasias Seamire.
  • Iron Bank of Brothers: A small branch of the banking institute lies in River's Edge, a reminder of happier days long gone. Staffed by a single stone Golem named Rahudram, he has a few humanoid bank tellers under his command that help to keep the customers at ease.
  • Leramore Castle: This castle has been in River’s Edge since it’s founding during Dhalmass’s golden age, when the ancient magical sages protected the land. Most of the castle sits empty, and it’s underground level houses dungeons that serve as the town jail.
  • Leramore Foundry: This foundry sits on the southern edge of town, and has inoperable since the Driftwood river dried up. In previous years, the foundry processed the ore from the Lerramore mines, which was then sold in town and it was very profitable. Now carts of ore travel from the mines to other towns, making the process far more expensive.
  • Lyari's Fountain: A statue of the goddess "Lyari", the goddess of goodly dark elves, sits in the middle of a great pool of crystal clear water, easily twenty feet deep. The statue is made of blackstone, and depicts the elf pointing her longbow directly toward the sky, an arrow notched. From the arrow, water is continuously shooting out twenty feet into the air before falling into the pool. The fountain was constructed shortly after the river dried up by Abishu Tomeseeker as a source of freshwater for the town.
  • Sarah's Place: A branch of the popular interstellar tavern can be found in a secret entrance. A large, dark skinned monk, guards an ordinary door down an alleyway, and only allows people on the guest list to enter.
  • Shrine to The Soldier: This shrine is outdoors, open air, and looks much like a stone gazebo. A large statue depicting "The Soldier" stands behind an altar and several rows of pews. The shrine is in the same "block" as the barracks, but is open to the public. It is tended to by Karvak Bloodrunner, a cleric who also works with the town guard and sleeps in the barracks. Karvak spends much of his time and energy with the town guard, he does sell spellcasting services, he doesn't have much in the way of items, normally pointing people toward the other two shrines in town. He keeps a donation plate on the altar for people to leave tithes and the like, trusting that no one is going to steal from the holy site, especially given its proximity to the barracks.
  • Shrine to The Soulforger: This small stone building is attached to the Stoutforge armory and serves as a place of worship for traveling dwarves. It houses a dented anvil and a working forge, where the shrine's keeper, Lolgrad Goldsmith, could often be found preaching. Unfortunately, Lolgrad was slain in the attack on River's Edge, defending the shrine (and the humans who sought shelter in it) from the invading kobolds.
  • Shrine to The White Lady: This shrine is more like a traditional temple building, and is open all day and night.
  • Stoutforge Armory: The main armory in the town, the day to day operations are run by the dwarf Jorsk Stonecutter, though he is only an apprentice to Dralduin Stoutforge of the Sparkling Mountain Stoutforges. The Stoutforge family own the Armory, and have placed Dralduin in charge of it. Jorsk has many talents in the fields of metal, stone, and wood, and is a shrewd trader.
  • The Stoutforge Inn: The Stoutforge Inn is located in the southern part of River's Edge, across from The Stoutforge Armory. The inn serves all who would visit, the clientele are mostly dwarves, many of them stopping in for a few drinks before heading further into the town or beyond, or before heading south into the mountains.
  • Tomeseeker Emporium: This stone tower is the second largest building in River's Edge, but the tallest, and considerably newer than many of the others. Comprised of six floors and a basement, it has a magic shop in the first floor, and the rest is used as living space for the owner Abishu Tomeseeker, a drow wizardess who has been in River's Edge for two centuries. Also living in the tower is Abishu's wife, Kasharila, a talented archer and bard, and their adopted family, Quichara (A ranger), the priestess Cynkala, and four other wizard apprentices, Neganzi, Tagoru, Senaka, and Jarqual. All of the family are female drow. In addition to these drow, Abishu's best apprentice, Alcarnino, a former adventurer and male drow, can usually be seen running the shop, but he does not live in the tower. At night, Quichara and Cynkala are usually the ones running it. The store very rarely closes and is normally open all day and night. The store sells scrolls, potions, wondrous items, magical arms and armor, wands, rings, rods, and even staves, all made by Abishu and the other wizards.
