Taylor Leramore

Lord/Sheriff Taylor Leramore

Taylor Leramore is the ruler of River's Edge, one of the lords of the High Council of Dhalmass, and the local Sheriff. Though he is a lord, he prefers to go by his elected title of Sheriff.   Taylor Leramore was born in River's Edge in 1240 AYD, the only son of Edmund Leramore and his wife Mary Adadul. Edmund was the lord of River's Edge and its surrounding area, and Mary was a stablemaster. Taylor grew up favoring martial pursuits and he loved exploring the two forests that bordered his families holdings, and when he was 14, he was sent off to squire for a knight and groomed to be a commander in the King's Army, much like his father. Unfortunately, in 1258 AYD, his father Edmund was killed as part of the King's campaign to defeat the foul necromancer Erik Fossberg, and when news reached his mother, she killed herself. This forced Taylor to return to the town to rule it as Lord. He brought back with him a cleric of The Soldier he had served with named Kaysal, and they married in 1259 AYD. She gave birth to their daughter Kendra in 1260 AYD, and their son Jameith in 1263 AYD.   In 1273 AYD, while Taylor was investigating dead unicorns in Broken Twig Forest to the west of River's Edge, Kaysal was murdered in an attack by cultists in the service of Asmodeus, after she had refused them entry into the town earlier that day. Taylor would learn later that the unicorns were murdered to draw him out of the town. Taylor traveled in secret to Nujanat, tracking down the surviving cultist, Benedict Lawbringer, and killed him in a hidden temple to Asmodeus, along with a few other lesser cultists. He then destroyed the temple and buried Benedict in a shallow grave.  Unfortunately, this was discovered a few days later by workers for the city, and Taylor was charged with the murder.  Taylor demanded a trial by combat, as was his right as a lord, and defeated the king's champion, meaning in the eyes of the gods, and more importantly their legal code, he was a free man.   After his wife's murder, he stopped traveling as much, preferring to stay inside the town and took a more active role in training the town guard, and he was elected Sheriff of the region after asking his people to appoint him to the position (he prefers to go by his elected title of Sheriff as opposed to his title of Lord, though he is still both). The Driftwood River dried up shortly after Kaysal's murder, but no one has been able to determine why as the forest that contains the river's source is controlled by deadly giants.   His children both left on their own journeys when they turned 18, Kendra, who takes after her father, travels among the wandering drow tribes of the region, furthering her studies of herbal medicine and helping them to deal with civilized folk. Jameith became a cleric of The Soldier like his mother, and runs the temple in the nearby town of Treshein.   Taylor spends his days running the town of River's Edge, he keeps taxes low and invests what he can back into the town, most of the wealth of the Leramore family has gone into maintaining the town since the river dried up and trade has been reduced. He doesn't take a salary and has had to slash the town's taxes and budget to the breaking point to maintain the local businesses (which are all, with the exception of The Iron Bank of Brothers and Sarah's Place, locally owned), to the point where they don't have much money for anything else, the town is in disrepair after the kobold attack.
