Personal history

Fogg was born in Avross to an originally Thienidian father, Casiel, and Hylander mother, Misty. He spent his first few years growing up like any other Hylander child, but when he was ten Tarron Wayfold came to Avross looking for a Dewin apprentice. Sensing dormant magic in Fogg, as well as a great amount of curiosity and discipline, Tarron took Fogg on as his apprentice and the two of them took up residence in the castle.
Through his training with Tarron, Fogg discovered natural abilities to travel soundlessly and to blend in with his surroundings. He also learned skills such as magic-scrying and illusory shapeshifting. Many of his lessons were alongside Shael Burke, who became like an honorary second apprentice to Tarron and like a brother to Fogg.
Over his years at the castle, Fogg also became friends with Princess Twilight Alary, connecting mainly over music, chess, and common values.

Education

In addition to attending Avross's public school---where he excelled in most classes and was most knowledgeable in history--Fogg was instructed in magic from age ten onward by Tarron Wayfold, in preparation to become a Dewin at Tarron's death.

History

Fogg and Shael met when Tarron Wayfold brought the former to the castle for a Dewin apprenticeship. At the time, Shael was four and Fogg was ten. Though they knew each other in passing for the first couple of years, it was in the year he turned six that Shael, true to his inquisitive nature, began listening in on Tarron and Fogg's lessons. Fogg was the first to notice but said nothing to his mentor, assuming that Shael would either lose interest or get himself caught, but when Shael continued to listen and Tarron continued not to notice, Fogg grew impressed by the younger boy.
After a few days, Fogg sought out Shael and found him in the observatory trying to execute one of the Dewin spells Tarron had taught. Fogg gave Shael a couple of pointers on how to perfect the spell and that was the beginning of their friendship.
When Tarron did finally notice Shael's eavesdropping, after a couple of weeks, he appreciated Shael's dedication and skill and agreed that he could listen in on certain lessons but would have to sit out of others, an arrangement that everyone was happy with.
Shael and Fogg continued to work together on spells, and Fogg came to trust Shael to even help him sort out what he was doing wrong on spells Shael hadn't been present for, due to Shael's knack for magical science. Over time, Fogg and Shael came to trust each other so much that they could discuss the matter of which of them was Tarron's apprentice (Fogg often said he wasn't sure Shael shouldn't have been chosen instead, for all his skill, but Shael was perfectly content with his astronomical studies).
To this day, they're as close as brothers.
