The Starspire

The Starspire is both an order and a massive tower that resides within the Sonoran capital city of Alsace. It serves as the primary academic avenue for people to learn the arcane arts of wizardry and sorcery and is where those with any form of magical aptitude are sent to hone their skills. Under the tutelage of the Starmasters and Starmistresses who are absolutely unparalleled masters of their respective schools, these mages grow up to serve the Kingdom in a variety of roles, from combative to resource management. It also serves as a hive of arcane and otherwise lesser-known knowledge and lore.

Structure

The Starmasters and Starmistresses: This is the highest level of authority within the Spear, with there being a collection of Eight in total to represent the Eight Schools of Magic. Each name that the Starmasters have is actually the name of the original Starmasters who resided within the Tower upon being met by the Urth'aile Kings of Old, taken by the next person to ascend to the position out of respect and understanding of the Starspear's purpose, to govern the use of magic and keep watch over its use amongst all of the realm.
  • Starmaster Vesuvian: Vesuvian is the Starmaster of Evocation and wearer of the Crimson Mask. A master of Evocation and the primary teacher of such magics, he is often tasked with training Warmages for the Sonoran Empire as well as holding a subclass on Elementalism due to its innate connection with Evocation magic. He is a human aasimar with long warm-grey hair and burning golden eyes, and is stoic, calm, and strictly to the point.
  • Starmistress Carthága: Carthága is the Starmaster of Conjuration and wearer of the Emerald Mask. Focusing on the conjuration and summoning of creatures to aid one in battle, Carthága has an affinity for animals and a naturally communicative and outgoing personality. She is a wood elf with bright copper hair tied in a messy bun and olive freckled skin, and is kind, cooperative, and loves meeting new people and creatures.
  • Starmaster Antioch: Antioch is the Starmaster of Abjuration and the wearer of the Midnight Mask. He is a hobgoblin and is confident, analytical, perceptive, and innately inquisitive, responsible for teaching Warmages and for training future Sonoran Inquisitors.
  • Starmistress Alexandria: Alexandria the Starmistress of Divination and wearer of the Lead Mask. She is a half-orc with black hair cut in a bob and a small white patch of silver in the center and is very keen on taking a hands on approach to one's own destiny. She believes that one should not be a passive viewer to fate and instead use Divination to inform their decisions.
  • Starmaster Paris: Paris the Starmaster of Enchantment and wearer of the Golden Mask. He is a high elf hedonist who spends his unmasked time experiencing all manners of pleasure in the world, sometimes sleeping with his students due to his popularity and particularly unorthodox teaching style.
  • Starmaster Barsailon: Barsailon is the Starmaster of Transmutation and wearer of the Ivory Mask. He is a deep gnome experimenter who has performed many transmutation feats, seeking to find a way to restore the broken planes, repair planar rifts, and ultimately undo the Cosmic Sunder.
  • Starmistress Cyavoz: Cyavoz is the Starmistress of Illusion and wearer of the Amethyst Mask. He is a dark elf with purple skin, lavender hair, and pink-red eyes, and is playful, manipulative, and merciless with his selection of students.
  • Starmaster Erasmus: Erasmus is the Starmaster of Necromancy and wearer of the Obsidian Mask. Often keeping to the Tower and rarely leaving with his mask on, Erasmus serves as the guardian of the Starmaster's Archstudy and Arcane Athenium, keeper of tomes, and defender of knowledge against those who would seek to steal or misuse such writings. He is a tiefling with dark grey skin, black hair, and pure gold eyes, and has a curious and intellectual nature. He is keen to try and change the world's perception of necromancy as an innately evil magic.
Starformers: The Starformers are the various high mage professors that teach the Starlings in the school.
  • Bromil Lead-Arm: Bromil is an Abjuration Starformer, a dwarf with grey hair braided and tattoos rolling down his back and chest. He is missing his left arm but has had a Lead Arm made that he can control in full solid form, acting as his casting focus for his spells.
  • Keegan Maxrow: Keegan is an Administrator for the Starspire as well as a War Magic Starformer, working to organize schedules and classes for Starlings.
  • Casitus Faun: Casitus is a human Evoker with short black hair, pale skin, and brown eyes. He often wears red robes with black inners and is the teacher of various students.
Starlings: Starlings are students who have come to learn at the Starspire under its rigorous program. Students attend for any number of years they wish, building their studies through the careful planning and experimentation set on them by the Starmasters and professors within the Spire.
  • Esther Coal: A female dwarven student with black curly hair, pale skin, and blue eyes, studying under the wizard School of Scribes. She wears red robes.
  • Finnigan Axhammer: A male dwarven student with short-cropped dark hair, purple robes, and studying under the School of War Magic.

  • Ophelia MacIntyre: A female human student with long black hair, pure lavender eyes, and pale skin, often seen wearing purple robes and is a member of the School of Enchantment. She is manipulative, ambitious, and
  • Raymond Dollsfen: A male half-elf student with short brown hair, tanned skin, and dark blue eyes, often wearing golden robes and sitting as a member of the School of Illusion.
  • Vincient McDoravey: A male half-elf student with red hair, pale skin, freckles, and dark green eyes, and is a member of the School of Illusion. He is quiet and shaky, anxious most of the time and is watched over by both Azrah and Oriah.
  • Oriah Landzer: A female dwarven student with braided blonde hair, tan skin, and brown eyes, often wearing light green robes w/ brass armor and a member of the School of War Magic. She is usually stand-offish, giving one word answers.

Culture

  • Magic As A Gift: The Starspire and its denizens view magic and arcane power as a gift that mortals have been given to better survive in the world, and that it must be tended to, nurtured, and protected at all costs. They warn against reckless experiments that can endanger the forces they wield, such as the Cosmic Sunder or the unsupervised melding of magical schools.
  • Color Coordination: Each school of magic has a color associated with it, which is often worn by practitioners of such spells while both in education and while working in the outside world. It also makes them easier to identify while in the field, as well as labels the sort of materials and gemstones best associated with the magic spells to be stored in them:
  • Enchantment magic uses topaz, citrine, or gold, and Enchanter Wizards wear yellow/gold.
  • Conjuration magic uses jade, emerald, and beryl and Conjurer Wizards wear green.
  • Abjuration magic uses sapphire, opal, and starstone, and Abjurist Wizards wear blue.
  • Evocation magic uses rubies and garnets, and Evoker Wizards wear red robes.
  • Necromancy magic uses obsidian, onyx, and jet, and Necromancers wear black.
  • Illusion magic uses amethyst and Illusionists Wizards wear purple.
  • Transmutation magic uses diamond, howlite, pearl, and moonstone, and Transmuter Wizards wear white.
  • Divination magic uses moonstone and dark pearl, and Diviner Wizards wear gray/silver.

Public Agenda

The Order of the Starspire exists to study, master, empower, and safeguard Arcane Magic. They believe that those who wield magic should do so in service and protection of magic, and that practitioners have an obligation to defend the great tool that they utilize and draw from every day.
  • Masks and Titles: The Starmasters and Starmistresses of the Starspire wear masks and don colors related to their magical school.

Assets

The Starspire houses the most powerful wizards in the world in the form of its Starmasters and Starmistresses. It also houses the Arcane Athenium, an endless library of knowledge, lore, myths, and arcane tomes.

History

  • First Meeting w/ Urth'aile Kings: The Starspire has existed long before the kings of Sonora and its predecessors built their keeps and urged their rule on the continent. They still resided within their legendary namesake tower, and when approached to kneel before the kings, reduced their armies and soldiers to ash, stone, and mindless slaves. They told the King that they did not wish for war or to conquer them, but instead sought to safeguard magic and all mortality that existed. If they were left alone to continue their research, they would never retaliate or cause harm. Eventually, a descendant would reemerge and, rather than seek to control them, asked the Starspire for guidance in the use of magic and arcane energy. This unification would eventually allow this descendant to build their kingdom and city around the Starspire itself, forming the capital city of Alsace.
