The Knights Argent

The Knights Argent, formerly known as the Knights Ardent, is an order of sworn knights designated to hold the title under the King of Sonora or other knights. A knight swears to uphold the vows of chivalry, protection, dedication, loyalty, kindness, and virtue, serving as a prime example of a heroic and brave figure for the people to rally behind and aspire too. The original Knights Argent were the first to stand behind Azran Sonora during the Sonoran Succession, in which they aided him in dethroning Jame Urth'aile, the last Urth'aile king from power, ending the line of murderous, greedy, and strife-causing Urth'aile rulers.

Structure

  • Knight: These are the sworn protectors and gleaming lights of the Sonora nation, sworn in by the king himself or by other Knights Argent. In terms of honorifics, female knights are identified by Ser, while male knights are identified by Sir.
  • Squire: A squire serves as a direct apprentice and assistant to his designated knight, helping them with tasks such as donning armor, training under them in the code of chivalry or combat, and accompanying them on missions. When a Knight feels his Squire worthy, he may choose to petition the king to knight them or may even knight them themselves.

Culture

  • Noble Service: Knights are expected to serve the lord or noble whose land he walks upon, except if doing so would supersede the will of the king or a higher noble above that one. They can be called upon to dispense justice, apprehend criminals, or help townsfolk to solve problems throughout the land.
  • Patron Gods: When a knight is sworn into service, they usually pick a god to serve as their patron and guiding light, melding the tenets of chivalry with those of the deity they have chosen. Their heraldry also can be formed to reflect their chosen following, the most common gods listed below:
Bahamut, the Platinum Dragon: For those who wish to pursue true justice, keep tempered in times of struggle, and can extend the hand of mercy. Torm the True: Those who let duty and honor guide their decisions, following in the footsteps of those before them. Tyr the Warkeeper: For those who seek to prevent war, but also seek to end it as quickly as it began, with the least amount of lives lost. Pelor, the Dawnfather: For those who wish to foster wisdom, keep innocent life safe, and redeem those who can be brought back. Illmater the Martyred: For those who wish to protect the innocent and be their shield until the time of their death. Helm the Watcher: For those who safeguard what they are deigned to protect with their very lives, always watchful. Tempus the Flaming Sword: For those who seek glory in war and victory against their foes and the foes of their kingdom.

KNIGHTS
  • Sir Theòmarst McCloud the Banded Knight: An elven knight born from the lands of the Eastern Rend, Colin voyaged to the kingdom in search of a true purpose beyond living and experiencing the life and lives around him. He found purpose in the service of lords and kings, proving himself time and time again as a stalwart and honorable man, only to be disdained and dishonored after trying to return home to his kinsmen. With no one to watch him or root for him, he took the Rite of the Beast alone and was blessed by the Wildmother, able to shapeshift into a gold and white tiger. He would go on to train the future king Dalen Sonora in the ways of right and honor, serving as lieutenant to Royal Protector Zerath the Bronze Flame until his death.
  • Ser Seres Hook-Albairn the Mistral Blade: A human master duelist and arcane practitioner, Seres Hook started off as a scrappy, lively woman who eventually grew into her own form of rigid refinery. After facing a nymph who intended to flood the villages near the haunted pond of the King's Weep, she slew the fey and took her namesake weapon for herself, able to command the powers of ice and wind at her leisure.
  • Sir Selaryn Voz the Cavalry In One: A minotaur knight born from the harsh valleys of the Orcish Take, Voz was adopted by a kindly halfling and raised with Sonora values, taking up service and knights by the king upon seeing his mastery of a blade and unstoppable fortitude. While he shares a strong love of patriotism towards the kingdom, Selaryn is known for getting too out of hand when it comes to finally draw swords.
  • Sir Vincent "the Savvy" Faust: A tiefling roguish knight with a penchant for dishonesty and back-talk, Vincent came into the service of knighthood under King Doran Sonora after aiding Lord Marbelain in the slaughter of a number of dark elf scouts and raiders, skulking through whole camps to kill a number of tribesmen without anyone discovering him. He is a master assassin and duelist but does not fight fear or serve with any honor, preferring to do things in his own way and remain free from any code.
  • Sir Romulus Azon: A tiefling knight, Romulus was taught little in the ways of mercy growing up an orphan in the streets of Giralden. After attempting to steal a piece of bread from a campsite placed right outside the village, he was caught by the owner who turned out to be a witch hunter, tracking the scent of a vampire who had hidden amongst the homlet's denizens. Admiring the kid's spirit, the hunter took the boy along with him on the hunt, expecting him to defend himself, and upon finding the vampire, the two got into a nasty struggle that ended with the vampire taking the boy hostage. However, he would not prove a liability as Romulus stick the vampire in the mouth with a silver dagger, shielding from its bite and allowing the hunter to finish it off. With his ingenuity and bravery proven, the hunter took the boy in, training him in the ways of hunting monsters and keeping one's head down low to the ground, even as Romulus turned to the ways of knighthood when offered. The hunter turned such an honor down, never feeling comfortable amongst the shining men in silver. So they parted ways, and Romulus keeps his teachings close to his heart, even while pacted to his patron Zariel.
