Ayrindor

Ayrindor is one of The Five Nations located in central Aldora. It is the only nation to share a border with every other country in Aldora, making it a central hub for both trade and travel   Ayrindor boasts a diverse natural geography, home to sweeping mountain ranges, cultivated farmland, open grasslands, rivers, and the largest lake in the known world.

Structure

The Royal Family

Ayrindor is ruled over by the Royal family of Wynarn, descended from Emperor Elwin Galifar through his daughter Barvette Wynarn the first Queen of independent Ayrindor after his death. The current ruler is Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn

The Ayrindor Triumvirate

The Ayrindor Triumvirate unofficially rules Ayrindor. It consists of Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn , her younger brother the First Warlord of Aundair and Royal Minister of MagicPrince Adal ir'Wynarn, as well as Second Warlord of the Realm and Commander of the Knights Arcane Lord Darro ir'Lain.   Queen Aurala ir'Wynarn as queen is the central member and public face of the three, but none of the three entirely trust the other two, and as such they have a genteel rivalry. They do however recognize that they have a shared destiny and cooperate with each other.

Culture

Ayrindor's people are a model of duality. Split between rugged hard working agriculturalists and learned, bookish individuals the "typical" Ayrindorian is anything but. Metropolises bustle with activity as two major dragonmarked house enclaves and two centers of learning draw heavy business, while solitary monasteries dot the landscape where monks live in almost complete solitude, rarely venturing from their homes. Ayrindor's temperate climate and fertile soil make it a haven for good farmland and Ayrindor's wine is especially well known across Aldora. Two great centers of learning reside in Aundair, the University of Wynarn and the floating city of arcane study Arcanix. Both of these institutions have suffered from a lack of students during The Last War , but admissions are increasing yearly.
Ayrindorian's are known for their somewhat arrogant attitudes. Although arrogance is hardly a trait unique in The Five Nations , the Ayrindorians learn at a young age the results of a strong will in competition with others. That is not to say that every Ayrindorian is stubborn, or thick-headed, but that they will not easily concede a point they believe to be right, and indeed public duels have become a staple of Ayrindorian society; so much that many Ayrindorians have adopted names for specific maneuvers and styles used in duels.   Ayrindor is big and roads network throughout the nation making travel easy. Most Ayrindorians live away from major cities in farmlands, but still remain connected to their local cities and towns; thus Ayrindorian horsemanship is second only to the Lowland Elvesof El'handwin.   Fashion Many Ayrindorians are very fashion-conscious, more so than the people of the other nations of Aldora. At the forefront of modern fashion trends are the nobles who wear bright colors, feathered hats, long skirts, coats or cloaks, and ruffled or puffy sleeves. The lower class cannot afford to keep up with the trends set by the nobles. However, most own at least one fashionable outfit which they preserve for special occasions; these outfits are often outdated by a generation or two.

History

Ayrindor was one of the first nations to unite after the dissolution of Galifar thus giving them a strong position at the outset of The Last War. They warred heavily with all nations, gaining control of the city of Blackroot from Tere, the township of Pentafall from Cairharn, but losing significant land to what was once Aridar. They also lost significant land to Doopaun in the city of Westernmirk, which has now been renamed Doopalon. They were unable to reclaim this city in the Treaty of Arriscar. This loss of fertile landscapes to the tribes and devils of Doopaun is a massive sore point on Ayrindor.
