Baru (BAH roo)
the Gate of Dergonhad
Baru is a multi-cultural nation in the Aibib region on the east coast of the major continent of Dergonhad. The nation was founded midway through the Viakagi Era by the conglomerate of nations that make of the Viakagi. Aibib with its many bays and inlets, was used by the Viakagi because it made for a perfect launching point for attacks on the major continent ofEthae. Formally a remote disconnected land, the region grew exponentially over the era. Ports like Songau grew and flourished. As did the Bayu people who dwelt in the land since the beginning of time, if their legends are true.
As the Viakagi Era ended a trade became the norm across the Cota Ocean, Baru thrived. Its location at the closest point relative to Ethae, and the fact that major travel lanes along the coast had been established throughout the era meant it became the hub of trade between the continents. The nation has strong ties with the C of Tinjir, with some saying the two nations are twins, one on each side of the Cota.
The native Bayu people have taken control of their region in the modern day. The nation still has a large population of various culture from across eastern Dergonhad, however, these are largely traders, travelers, and workers, rather than anyone political power. Most Bayu, one remote tribal groups, have caught up through their prosperity thanks to the Viagaki Era thrusting them into the rest of the world.
Baru is a nation of city-states, with each of the coastal port towns in control of their own territory outside other influences. There is a common-law treaty between these populations centers that is agreed on by all as universal laws for Baru. Songau, by far the largest city, of Baru stands as the most influential and something of a default capital when city-state leaders need to gather to settle disputes or make new deals.
The nation and its city-states claim all the lands of Aibib as their own territory, from the sea to the mountains. Very few, however, live in the interior of the region. This is largely due to having more opportunities in the coastal towns than any other reason. There are still a few tribal towns deep in the interior, but these are few and far between, and slowly vanishing over time. Talk in Songau is of mounting expeditions into the Dadon Duul Hahad looking for the countless untapped natural resources that are in those mountains. There is little effort put into this due to a lack of neccenity to do so, with every resourse anyone would need arriving and departing the ports every day.
