Baran

the Old Tongue

Baran is the native tongue of the Bayu people of eastern Dergonhad. It is considered one of the oldest living languages on the continent. It is known for its complex gramatical structure and unique phonetic sounds. Ancient Baran is believed to have been far more complex and thought to be the root of many of the other east coast languages of modern Dergonhad.

This language has been slowly dying out over the last few centuries as Baru has become the hub of shipping lanes across the Cota Ocean for Dergonhad. Most of the Bayu of Baru speak Dergon as a secondary language. Dergon is heard more and more frequently in the streets of Songau, and Baran is becoming a language spoken only at home or with close friends.
