Travel Diaries of Orator Thahn

1st of Sun's Swell, AE 721
Orator Thahn was a half-elven man, believed to have been born sometime within the second-to-last century of the Lizdah Era. Virtually unknown until long after his passing in AE 182, much of what is known about Thahn comes from the nurse who cared for him in the final years of his life, Quilal Socia, who was also responsible for copying and distributing his travel diaries.   The original travel diary Thahn kept is quite different from those that were distributed by Socia; it had little actual writing other than the occasional short description in High Elvish, with much of it consisting of sketches and the rare pressed plant. The longer, more poetic descriptions for which Thahn is now known, which add considerable length to the diaries, were added later on. A skilled orator, Thahn is said to have kept all the descriptions in his head, and they were only added to the diaries when Socia transcribed them for him.   Thahn's travel diaries now consist of a set of three volumes, documenting his travels through the numerous planes of the Astral Sea, from the ancient Obsidian Pools that Prem, the god of time and death, calls home, to the newly formed Warrior's Reprieve, home of then twin war gods Dinya and Katsya.   The original diaries, along with Socia's handwritten transcriptions, are currently held by Bruxaria University.

Legacy

The legitimacy of of the diaries has occasionally been called into question. While Thahn is known to have been a real person and have talked to others about his travels, some believe that what is written in the diaries may have written instead by Quilal Socia after Thahn had passed. Some believe him to have only contributed light editing, while others suggest the he wrote the majority in order to lengthen the diaries and profit from them.   Since transversing the planes requires highly advanced magic, and some areas of the astral sea are inaccessible even with the ability to use such magic, it makes some of the diary's claims unfalsifiable, regardless of who wrote them.   There are also those who believe the diaries are significant regardless of their veracity. The writing is powerful when read, but visceral when orally recited as intended. The passage on the Obsidian Pools in particular has become commonplace in Silverquill courses at Bruxaria University.
