Temple of Continuance
1st of Sun's Swell, AE 721
The Temple of Continuance is well known in the Kingdom of Hazar and beyond as a religion with two prominent values: consistency, and the easing of suffering. Born in Hazar's hot, semi-arid inland region sparsely populated with homesteaders, these values were especially important. From humble beginnings, it has transformed over the centuries into a force better recognized than the royal family of Hazar itself. Innately entwined with necromancy, the Temple predominantly worships Prem, the god of death and time, and Nezna, god of knowledge and the arcane, the only two extant primordial deities.
Divine Origins
Tenets of Faith
- After funeral rites, a body is no longer a person and doesn't hold the same rights as one. Their wishes for their body after death no longer matter as it is no longer their body. However, the wishes of living family members should be respected.
- If an unused body could be used to help relieve the suffering of others, then it is morally correct to use it.
- Bodies should be used until the effort required to maintain them is greater than the effort to have a living person perform their job.
- Necromancy and undeath is a temporary gift and shouldn't be taken for granted.
- Prem and Nezna are the only constants among the gods that can be truly depended upon. Too often are gods lost and gained between eras; Prem and Nezna are the only ones who have persisted.
Political Influence & Intrigue
The Temple is almost synonymous with power in Hazar. All sixteen of the current qadi, those tapped to be advisors to the king by his caliphs, once held positions within the temple or at the very least are members. All make a point of being regularly seen at various holidays, festivities, and services.
