Featherfolk
The featherfolk are one of the oldest Mortal Lineages, rivalled among eladrinate lines only by the Dragonborn, and exceeded only by the Dragons and the Giants. They are a rarity, as they were not created by a God, but by Soulwright Titans during the Colossus War. They were created to be messengers, after it was discovered that the Colossus War was interfering with the Titans' arcanotech communication web. They were made to be swift, agile and steadfast, and served throughout the war without complaint or betrayal.
The destruction of the titans changed things, however. The giants felt that it could be business as usual, but the loyalty of the featherfolk had been to the titans, to Titanis, not to their inferior successors. Many also felt, despite the fall of the Colossi, that the War had not ended in victory, and that their very survival was an indictment of the featherfolks' valour, leaving them feeling lost.
The remnants of the lineage were gathered up by a group of Young Gods known as the Dance of Winds, who impressed on them the idea that they survived because their work was not yet done. They charged the featherfolk to bring the scattered people of the world back together. The featherfolk took to this work with a will and so exhalted the Dance, led by the work of the Courier Guilds and their Great Fleet.
Then came the Cataclysm, and the ruin of all the post-War work of the featherfolk. Once more, they fell into despair, and once more the Dance of Winds enjoined them to renew their efforts. This time, the response was less than unanimous. While most of the featherfolk were willing, if not eager, to resume the calling, many of them decided that the service of an ungrateful populace was no longer a worthwhile cause. Those who accepted the charge became the sonvada, favoured of the Dance, and went on to create the High Eeries, while those who refused were cursed, and became the first of the unvada.
Featherfolk are bipedal and humanoid in form, but weigh much less than a human of equivalent size due to their hollow bones. They also look larger than they are due to their feathers. The three cultural divisions of the lineage - the Sonvada, the Unvada and the Nosvada - display distinct morphological differences.
