Alvanen
Alvanen is the regional capital of the Elven Kingdoms, situated in the northeastern Sylva Forest, northwest of Edralas. It houses the regional government: the Council of Alvanen.
Demographics
Alvanen is primarily made up of Elves, with Half-Elves facing discrimination and mostly limited to the Pher Edhil slums.
There are also a small number of Halfling, Gnome, and Human permanent residents, and occasionally Dwarven and Catfolk visitors.
Government
Alvanen is directly administered by the Council of Alvanen, which is housed within the city. The laws of the Nicaean Empire apply, but are often written to not conflict with the local Elven customs.
The Calluros Family are the original architects and overseers of the city, and still hold a large amount of sway in local decisions.
Defences
The walls of Alvanen aren't as tall or as well fortified as Edralas, but given the relatively small amount of space around the city for siege engines, they don't have to be. The archers are left to deal with incoming troops, assisted by smaller ballistae.
Infrastructure
Alvanen is the largest Elven city, and one of only two that have a strong outer wall (the other being Bor Haered in the west). It is a fairly large clearing between the forest and the Orthu Mountains which has been mostly filled in with farmland and orchards.
History
Alvanen is the traditional home of the Calluros Family, and was one of the two most powerful cities in the Elven Kingdoms before their conglomeration into the Empire.
Architecture
Elven buildings in the Sylva Forest all tend to have a very natural style, and Alvanen is no exception. The brown stone of the outer walls blends in with the primarily wooden houses of the city. Even the newer houses built in a more Imperial style still use wood for accents and sculptures.
