Golemurgy

Golemurgy is the act of manufacturing Golems to preform varying tasks for whoever commands them. It involves using the Mineral Aervotal in crystal form, and infusing it into an inanimate object. As long as the Aerovotal shards remain infused with magic, then the Golem can remain in operation.

Discovery

The act of Golemurgy was discovred by a pair of Artificers based in the floating city of Askelia. In an attempt to infuse a sculpture with magical properties, instead the sculpture started slowly moving. At first they did not understand what they had created, and thought they were being fooled. But the Golem stood there, unresponsive. The Artificers then discovered the way to control it was through another Aervotal shard, that has been linked to the one Infusing the Golem. From there, they deduced what kinds of commands could be issued, and initially only one word commands would work. As more research is done however, ways to introduce more complex commands are found.

Spread

After the discovery of Golemurgy, the practice was kept secret in Askelia, in typical Askelian fashion, and allowed the city to gain a headstart on automation and use of Golems for other tasks. Eventually however, the secret of Golemurgy was spread, through things like espionage, trade, and negotiation, and other countries scrambled for their own Golems. The demand for Aervotal skyrocketed, an it became a bottleneck for the production of Golems. Indepenent factions also saw the value, and depending on their wealth and access to mages, would attain Golems as well.

Utilisation

Golems can be used for many purposes. While Golems are still very rare and expensive, the most common are for combat, as strong warriors with no need for food or rest. The same reasoning goes for use by ships, as rowers. Other reasons can be for automation of production of items like armour or weapons.
