Artificer

An Artificer is a profession in which the person creates weapons, armour, tools, and other items that are imbued with magic or have magic properties.

Origins

The art of artificing originated in the Northern continent of Oss, where the property of the Aervotal crystal to absorb magic was discovered. A blacksmith from the Oss province Yllegate, Alleon Lefrid was the first person to incorporate magic infused Aervotal shards into his crafted weapons. The practice spread after the weapons were used by different Yllegate houses to gain more control through battle or even intimidation. Eventually the technique spread, initially throughout the Oss provinces, but then eventually into neighbouring nations, and on from there. Eventually it was normal for any nation with a military presence two have at least two artificers supplying magic infused weapons to their soldiers.

Post Oklan Calamity

After magic was abolished from Aervos Prime, the practice became much more difficult. Artificer's now had to travel to another realm to obtain magic, which left many without access to those realms unable to craft magic items. This created a high demand for Artificer's that had agreements with the masters of the realms or access to them, making Artifcing a much more lucrative trade than it already was.

Career

Qualifications

To be an Artificer, there are two main criteria that must be met. The most important is access to other realms that have magic. Also required is some sort of smithing skill, with weapons, armour, tools etc. It is exceptionally important that the items are well crafted, as magic infused weapons have the tendency to break down easily if they are poorly made.

Payment & Reimbursement

Artificers for particular nations or kingdoms are usually paid one of the highest wages available, usually in an attempt to attract and retain working for their nation. Considering the current rarity of Artificers, nations will pay whatever it takes to get an upper hand in Aervos.

Other Benefits

Artificers often have very high social status, depending on the perception of magic by the citizens.
