Askelia

Askelia is a largest city in Aervos, occupying the largest floating island on the Skeffe Isles. It is known as the hub for science and technology, due to the access to rare minerals and magic users.

Transportation

Initially, non flying races could only access Askelia through the use of flying creatures, like the Flatteca or the Skellat. But when the humans began experimenting with the Skeffe Core, they discovered the minerals property's of being able to control magnetism. This allowed them to create a certain type of lift that was controlled by manipulating the crystal. These lifts are controlled by the Askelian Government, and allow the city to keep strict tabs on who ascends to the city. The docks for flying creatures are also kept under strict control.

Government

The city is officially run by the city counsel, with each counsellor representing an area of the city. The Counsel convenes once a week and discusses the needs and happenings of the city. Any laws that want to be legislated must be approved by the Counsel. The Counsel votes on decisions and legislation, with each Counsellor mandated to vote on what the citizens they represent want. However, the city is not as black and white as it once was. Political Influencers are very present, manipulating and bribing to acheive their own personal goals. Organisations uses their wealth, influence, or information to change how the city runs.

Infrastructure

A large portion of the city is built around the

History

Askelia was the first human city to settle on the Skeffe Isles. After a territory war with the Kiwet, humans gained a foothold and began a town on the largest island.

Architecture

The original city core is built with wood, the remnants of the small town that settled. More recently, stone has become the material of choice, due to the resistance of elements like fire and ice.

Geography

The city is extremely large, taking up the entire island. When the city ran out of room, they expanded upwards. Building on top of already existing buildings and homes, virtually trapping the citizens underneath. The city started to be identified in layers, with the bottom layer quickly becoming the slums of the city. The middle layers is usually the housing areas, where citizens live. The top layer is where the top class lives and where the majority of research facilities are based.
