Skeffe Isles

The Skeffe Isles is a group of islands that float around the continent of Shaydel. The largest most notable island is Askelia, a human city built on the largest floating island.

Formation

The Skeffe Isles were formed when unknown crystals, rained down from the sky from an unknown realm, blanketing the uninhabited continent of Shaydel, and burrowing deep in the ground. The crystals then were repelled from the ground by the planets magnetic field and thrust into the air, which took immense chunks of the earth with it. The Islands stopped ascending eventually, resting at a height of about three times the height of Mt. Ghyraxos, the largest mountain in the world. When the islands were reached by humans, they discovered that the islands were inhabited by Kiwet. Some battles took place, and eventually the humans were able to found Askelia, though still with unstable peace between the two.

Geography

The terrain is mostly based on the terrain of the continent the islands departed from. Mostly flat forested plains, with some small and large hills. Rivers and streams still maintain a moderate amount of water flow, due to the the islands seeing a large amount of precipitation to to the close distance to the equator.

Fauna & Flora

When the islands ascended, most of the tree's were unable to survive in the colder temperatures, and died, but were harvested both by Kiwet and humans for building shelters. What remains is grassy plains and small plants that have adapted to the high altitude. There are a small number of animals that have adapted as well, such different rodents and birds, but without access too large amounts of lands their populations stay low.

Natural Resources

The crystals in the centre of the islands are harvest-able, but as soon as a piece is removed, the islands loses some of its altitude, so they are generally left alone, except by Askelian researchers, who develop different methods of ascension.
