Istoria
The Eternal Empire
"We can't say much with certainty about the territory that would become Istoria, the Eternal Empire, in the wake of the Lullaby War. What we know is that it was the center of many battles, and has become a thriving nation standing tall on the ruins of its own, hushed up past. The truth is a matter of speculation; what did the Last Defenders of the Realm do here exactly that won them the war?"
--- Fiorella Ortwein: Secrets with Tradition
Structure
Istoria is ruled by the Royal Ista Family, with an Emperor or Empress crowned as their monarch. Their husband or wife carries the title Emperor- or Empress-Consort, the heir to the throne is the Sovereign Prince or Princess, with all other children being Princes and Princesses. The title is inherited by the oldest child of the current Emperor or Empress, regardless of gender or blood relation. The monarch is supported by a council.
Assets
Istoria is home to the Open Door, an adventurer's guild and the only way to legally pursue that profession.
Furthermore, it's the home base of the Last Defenders of the Realm, though the continued existense of this group is not common knowledge.
History
Istoria came to prominence in the time following the Lullaby War, its people rising from the ruins of the conflict to build new lives amongst the old. Originally split into independantly claimed counties, baronies and duchies, the young nation was quickly unified under the rule of its first Empress Raziel Ista I. The nation was formed under the monicker 'empire' rather than 'kingdom' to pay tribute to Ethelia, the empire lost to the destruction of war. Modern Istoria has grown into a prosperous land well-versed in matters of trade and diplomacy. The people here welcome those who would pass through, and embrace those who choose to stay as warmly as if they'd been born there.
Demography and Population
The mild climate of Istoria means that it makes an ideal place to live for many races. Humans can, of course, be found just about anywhere; elves and halflings are equally numerous. Dwarves are more commonly seen towards the mountains that border Istoria, taking advantage of the ample mining opportunities there, or else visiting Estea for trade.
By contrast, most dragonborn prefer a more extreme climate, making them a relatively rare sight within Istoria's borders - ironic, considering the role their ancestors played long ago in constructing Estea.
Istorian elves are traditionally known as either wood or high elves - wood elves tend to be more inclined towards nature and the wild, while high elves are typically more talented in magic.
