Brightcliff
"... and although House Brightcliff makes a sport out of wanting to distinguish itself beyond its fading importance on the political spectrum, let it not be said better examples cannot be found for them to emulate: Why, has not our very own Emperor adopted his husband's children to pass the crown on despite not having sired children of his own, and is this not an example worth being followed by an aging baron and baroness whose only child so tragically perished?"On the far side of Dawnlight Bay from Estea, Brightcliff houses the wealthy and the noble who can't or don't want to live in the capital. Competition for property at the cliff's edge is stiff, as the closer you are to the cliff the better view you have of Estea's beauty from across the bay. Some especially daring families have paid equally-daring builders to construct manors that actually hang over the edge of the cliff - from a distance, Brightcliff is a city that looks likely to crash into the waters below at any given moment. While the houses here are built of glass in an attempt to emulate the architectural stylings of the capital, nobody knows how to make the special toughened glass that makes up Estea. This, combined with the petty squabbling natures of the idle rich making the city their home, means that social blunders and rivalries are not infrequently marked by stones thrown and entire buildings smashed into glittering shards, with possessions and sometimes people left to tumble over the edge. Brightcliff is also home to the Baron and Baroness of Brightcliff, an aging couple known to stick to very consversative, traditionalist ways, and painfully obsessed with their image among their peers and subjects. Following the tragic demise of their only child brought about by a hunting accident, the Bright Barony currently has no heir.
