Seven Sages of Sikíron

The Seven Sages of Sikíron1 were a group of people in the early days of the Sikíron Empire, who founded most the main schools of philosophy within the empire.

The sages

Aþýló of Andartis

Aþýló was the last major nemirkían philosopher to record her teachings in the form of poems, a tradition which has since fallen into obscurity within the empire. A running theme in her works is the emphasis on the dangers of abusing power, and how being respected is better than being feared.

Búrrus of Narsía

Born to the nomadic Narsíans on the southwestern Meldon Plain, Búrrus lived most of his life in the city of Krelissía, where he taught that lying was the source all the world's ills, and became infamous for his blunt way of speaking. Students of his philosophy wow to never lie and always speak their mind, no matter the consequences.

Glýkera of Mílesis

Glýkera was a half-dwarf who denied the existence of gods and afterlife, and taught that happiness, friendship and moderation in all things were the key to a good life.

Kárus of Ahaþrys

Kárus was a mage with keen interest on the effects on magic on people. He believed that arcane energy represented a neutral state, whence all things originate and eventually dissolve back into, and taught that by training ones arcane abilities, keeping an open mind and avoid falling into a strict routine, one can achieve such a neutral state and thus true wisdom.
This philosophy is known as kárism, and its students kárists.

Náþrakus

One of Búrrus' students, who believed that simple living in addition to honesty was the best lifestyle. Later students of his teachings, known as náþrakists, have taken this further by adopting full on asceticism, renouncing all social norms and live as beggars. Náþrakists are found in all major cities of the empire, unlike the followers of Búrrus who prefer the countryside and even wilderness.

Níala of Skeziran

Hailing from the Azókan Islands, Níala taught that magic came from a divine source, a spark of which resided in each individual. By studying magic, training in its use and observing certain rituals, followers of her teachings believe that can become closer to the gods.

Zeyakríus of Kadría

Zeyakríus believed that strict discipline was needed to achieve inner tranquility. His students are known for avoiding alcohol, spiced food and dancing (the latter which Zeyakríus abhorred).
