Dogs

Adynía is home to many kinds of dogs, bred for various tasks such as hunting, herding livestock and protecting the home as well as for simple companionship.

Cave Dog

Halinkazian: Bekderaz, pl: bákderazí
A breed popular among the aristocracy of Halinkazía as lap dogs. They're tiny, short-legged and have fragile bones due to living in underground manors and palaces for generations, and teeth so delicate that they can barely manage to eat raw meat.
Similar dogs were kept by nobles in ancient Zameltonía and Katargysía.

Góalanic Cattle Dog

Native to Góalanis in eastern Adynía, these dogs rarely bark as it would startle the cattle, instead they are taught to snap at their heels. Most have short, brown fur with lighter legs and neck.

Halinkazian Sheep Dog

Halinkazian: Úlderaz, pl: úlderazí
As the name suggests, these small, loud and infamously energetic dogs are used by the dwarven Halinkazíans to keep an eye on their sheep up in the Darka Mountains in northern Adynía. They sport a long, light or reddish brown coat, with white face and neck, and curled tail.

Keþían Sheep Dog

These dogs are used by shepherds of Keþía, an kingdom in the Lakú Mountains, and to guard the homes of local nobles. Their reddish-brown coat, though rather short, is unusually thick to withstand the winter cold. Early forms of these dogs were encountered by ancestors of the halinkazíans during their brief stay in the Lakú Mountains of Gráhúlysía, some of which they brought with them westwards and became ancestors of the halinkazían sheep dog.

Núrakic Hunting Dog

Native to western Adynía, a small breed mostly used to hunt rabbits and other small prey, but are often kept as pets as well.

Úrúnic Working Dog

One of the largest dog breeds in Adynía, traditionally used by the orcs of Úrún in northern Adynía as draft animals and to aid hunters in the dense forests there. Like most of the fauna in the region, they have a modest resistance to magic, which often proved useful during the orcish conquest of Góalanis, along with their size and power which allowed the dogs to pull enemies off their horses.
