The Shelling of Corvalon
The Conflict
Prelude
With the Twelve Years War grinding ever-nearer to its conclusion, some nations began to throw caution to the wind and put everything they had into winning in the final stretch. In one such case, The Holy Kingdom of Stanna, fully aware of The Republic of Nydonia's lack of naval fortitude, launched a full scale naval operation on Nydonia's coastline. This maeuver was far more agressive and direct than any previous attempt, and even with many supporting Acentian vessels, Nydonia's coast was doomed go fall under Stanni control.
Deployment
With a massive fleet centered around the Stanni Kalvacros Class Super-Battleship, a full frontal assault would be made on Nydonian forces. First they would sweep around and cut off supply lines and take out incoming escorted shipments, before heading ever closed to the heart of Nydonia.
The Engagement
While combined Nydonian and Acentian naval forces put up a valiant defense, there just sinply weren't enough vessels in the area to stand a chance. Nobody had realized the sheer amount if ships Stanna still had at this point in the war, thanks to the very secretive strategy of keeping many boats in hidden and concealed docks located in the side of rock faces, or constructed to look like a factory from the sky, and so on. After the Nydonian defense had been sufficiently crushed, Stanna would go on to perform one of the most infamous acts of destruction in the entire war. The Stanni fleet would drop their anchors off the coast of the Nydonian capital, Corvalon, and begin raining hell down on the largest civilian population in the region. Luckily, Corvalon already had dozens of bunkers built due to previous bombing campaigns and the like ran by their adversaries, but there just simply wasn't enough room for the over 70 thousand residents of the city. Thousands left the city, but other thousands also refused to leave their ancestral homes, and many of them perished for their stubbornness. The majority of the city would be decimated by the incoming shells, bombs, and rockets as the fleet let loose over the course of multiple days, mobile supply chains sent days in advance bringing further instruments of destruction to the rapidly expending armada, unhindered as any major fleets in the area had already been mopped up. The two Nydonia Class Heavy Cruisers that were docked at Corvalon did their best to repel the incoming wrath, acting as artillery emplacements at port until the NSV Nydonia herself was destroyed by incoming fire and the NSV Eagle ran out of ammunition, miraculously surviving the affair (albeit with heavy damage). Many long range bombers and even brave attack aircraft from nearby cities flew in to help, many from far enough away that they knew they would not have enough fuel left for a return trip. Most were shot down before they even had to worry about such things, torn to shreds in an instant by the thick Stanni field of flak, however a substantial number of heavy bombers were able to fly above the area and destroyed dozens of Stanni vessels in the process.
Picture captured by the Sturgian photographer Sanzal Agdal of the moment the NSV Nydonia's magazines were detonated, also causing a nearby ammunition depot to explode in the process.

Outcome
Finally, as more and more Stanni vessels were being sunk by Nydonian strategic bombers, including 2 carriers, reinforcements arrived. The support fleet, formed out of many different Allied Countries, came in massive numbers, hitting the Stanni fleet from the west and forcing them in the opposite direction of their home territory. This would lead to the chain of events know later as the Death Pursuit of the Kalvacros.
Aftermath
Thousands of people lost their lives in this act of Stanni barbarity, with countless houses, factories, and historical buildings also being destroyed in the process. The event was so burned into the Nydonian consciousness, that a national holiday is held each year to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in the defense of the city and mourn the loss of friends family members and a monument was erected in the city square.
