Diali

Defences

During the Twelve Years War Diali was controlled by opposing sides multiple times throughout the war, mostly due to its strategic location and recently discovered oil reserves. To better defend the city from being retaken by the enemy, joint Mahadrin and Nydonian engineering corps dug trench systems on the outskirts of the city as well as building nearly a dozen bunkers into the side of the small mountain overlooking the city, facing the direction of the Holy Kingdom of Stanna, from which any attack would more than likely come. These bunkers were equipped with cannons capable of firing either anti tank shells or high explosive anti personel rounds, and most are still intact and left in place to this day, with only the breaches being filled with concrete. This is a popular toursit attraction for the city. In the modern age, Diali has been given missile defense systems to defend against potential incoming attacks.

History

Diali was established initially as an oil pumping town in 1921. When it was discovered that the oil reserves beneath the surface were much larger than orginially anticipated, town grew rapidly, becoming big enough to earn the title of city in just a few years. As the number of pumpjacks in the oilfields outside of the city grew, so did the population of the city itself, bringing additional industries and buisness to Diali as well, despite its fairly remote location. Then the Twelve Years War began. Before long, advancing Stanni forces took the town after heavy resistance from entrenched Mahadrin men before pushing deeper into allied territoy. Soon they were pushed back and out of the city by combined allied forces, but Diali would see much more conflict and destruction before the horrible war would come to an end. When it finally did grind to a halt, much of the city had been reduced to rubble and bunkers and trench systems had sprouted up around town. Much money was put into rebuilding efforts however, there was still plenty of oil to be harvested after all, and soon Diali was even bigger than it has been, destroyed buildings simply being replaced with more modern equivilants.

Tourism

While toursists to come to observe the century old bunker systems carved into the mountains, the traffic is lessoned somewhat due to the relativly remote location of the city.
