8.5mm Nydonian

8.5x23mm

Utility

These rounds were designed to work specially with pistols and submachine guns, dialed for optimal cycling and smooth operation while still be lightweight. Original rounds were typically just subsonic, while hotter supersonic loads were later introduced in the late 40s for increased performance. These rounds are known as 8.5mm Nydonian Super, often shortened to 8.5 Super.

Manufacturing

Tryebuchyet Zevsgiin Dizain was and still is the primary producer of these rounds, though many smaller companies now produce similar options and variants.
Inventor(s)
This round was invented by the renowned Roshal Maivren by commission of the Nydonian Department of War. The reason for this demand was rising concerns of Stanni soldiers capturing and requisitioning intercepted Nydonian supplies and using them for their own war effort, as was seen in the Southern Tandara Bush War. To remedy this problem in the foreseen inevitable conflict that would come to be known as the Twelve Years War, new non-standard caliber rounds that were just slightly too large to fit into Stanni weapons. One of these was the 8.5x23mm round.
