Samithra Rank/Title in Adijari | World Anvil

Samithra

Following his battle with the demon spirit Sharkolen, Shupram and his island disappeared from the world for many years.   When he returned, he was a very different and serene Spirit, who sought a new strategy to prevent calamities such as the one that made him bitter. He and seven mortal champions of Kayumna had already created Kaloepari, a noble martial art discipline for protection that became a  a tradition that was taught and practiced at Kayumna as part of its cultural identity. Shupram, every thirty-five years, would now choose the most promising practitioner of Kaloepari. That person would swim to Shupram's island in that brief period of time when it was part of the physical plain on the one day a year. When the island disappeared with a champion, it would do so for seven years, and Shupram himself would exclusively train this individual in Kaloepari to turn them into the Samithra.   His island, as a spiritual realm, has a fluid reality that Shupram controls. With his will and imagination he creates scenarios for his disciple's training. Previous Samithras have spoken about some of their trials, including having to navigate obstacle courses with vicious rapids and flowing lava, going up against recreations of the original seven mortal champions, and having to go through endurance tests of endless mountains and infinite deserts. They claim to have died several times over during their time with Shupram, saved only because the Island is a partial and not complete reality.   When the seven years pass and the training is over, like Shupram, they are changed people. They return as feared and revered individuals throughout the empire. Samithra's have the right to enter whatever military role they wish in any place within the Ismat empire, for to refuse them that right is to welcome a curse from Shupram who contains the demon Sharkolen. Samithra's are known for being extremely righteous, which can be a hindrance to some of the Ismat nations they insert themselves into, at least the ones that enjoy an unbalance of power. What is undeniable is their physical skill in combat. They are artful warriors who are dazzling to watch. Enemies and allies alike will stop fighting each other to stare at a Samithra in action. In some cased, entire wars have stopped, and enemies have surrendered in deference to a Samithra's superior display of skill.
