Terran Confederated Republic Navy

The Navy is the second largest branch of the Terran Confederated Republic's Armed Forces. The Navy's state-of-the-art equipment and ships allows them to patrol the various territories and transit lanes of the Republic with ease, speed, and power. Though a great deal of automation is present in the Navy, large crews are still required to man the ships and strike craft. Each ship is at least partly self-sufficient, with enough amenities on board to provide for their maximum crew capacity for at least 200 days without a resupply. Servicemen and women in the Navy are drilled, educated, and trained relentlessly and on a constant basis.

Structure

Like nearly every military organization in human history as well as its sister services, the Navy is organized into four tiers; Officers, warrant officers, non-commissioned officers, and enlisted personnel. Officers represent the best the branch has to offer, giving commands and seeing that the nation and her colonies are protected. Warrant Officers are afforded the respect of junior Officer, but without the full privileges of one due to their essential knowledge and skills. Non-Commissioned Officers represent team leaders, department leaders, and possible future officers. The enlisted man represents the youngest men and women on a given vessel. As with all three branches of the TCRAF, they utilize a stratified rank-grade system based primarily off of the former United States' military.

Officer Ranks
Fleet Admiral (FADM) - Lifetime appointment and considered the highest authority in the Navy under the Chancellor.
Admiral (ADM) - Senior-most attainable Flag rank. Almost always seen as the commanding officer of a large Fleet, or as Sector Commander.
Vice Admiral (VADM) - Commands fleets, and may act as deputies for sector-level command.
Counter Admiral (CADM) - Now holds two stars. May be seen in similar positions to Rear Admirals.
Rear Admiral (RADM) - First of the Flag ranks. May command an Expeditionary Force or Carrier Strike Group. Also seen as deputies to larger commands.
Captain (CAPT) - Captains may command the largest Capital-type ships of the TCRN, as well as squadrons of Frigates, Destroyers, or Cruisers, Carrier Strike Wings, and space stations or planetside installations.
Commander (CDR)- Individuals of this rank may command a Frigate, Destroyer, Rapid Attack Cruiser, a strike craft squadron, or a planetside installation.
Lieutenant Commander (LCDR) - Serves as a department head or XO on a medium-sized ship, or strike craft squadron. Can also be the commanding officer of a Corvette-type vessel or smaller.
Staff Lieutenant (SLT) - Staff Lieutenants are experienced officers who are proven to be competent. They are usually staff officers of important departments such as intelligence or medical.
1st Lieutenant (1LT) - A seasoned lieutenant with more experience and service history. They have substantial responsibilities such as tactical watch teams and casualty situations. A 1LT may assume charge of smaller ships, or strike craft squadrons if the need arises. Some commands require the 1LT to act as a department head, or even an XO.
2nd Lieutenant (2LT) - Awarded after 6 months of continuous active service as an Ensign and passing the Lieutenant's Exams. A 2LT may be in training for their specialty or serve in the Fleet as division officers. They maintain their role for two years before promotion to 1st Lieutenant.
Ensign (ENS) - Rank given to OCS graduates. Remains their rank until 6 months of service in active duty. Authority of an Operations Chief.

Warrant Officer Ranks
Chief Warrant Officer (CWO) - Master-level technical and tactical experts that support command operations. Provides leadership and counsel to warrant and commissioned officers.
Warrant Officer (WO) - Advanced-level experts who perform the duties of a technical and tactical leader. Provides support at the department level.
Junior Warrant Officer (JWO) - Appointed by warrant from the current Fleet Admiral. Technically and tactically focused officers who perform the duties of trainer, operator, manager, maintainer, supervisor, and advisor.

Non-Commissioned Officer Ranks
Operations Chief (OPC) - The OPC is the leading Chief aboard ships or installation-based units, and act as a bridge between the enlisted and the commanding officer. As the principal enlisted advisor to the commanding officer, they are expected to create and enact operational and human resource policies, as well as ensuring junior crewmen are squared away.
Gunnery Chief (GYC) - The GYC commands with a higher level of technical and managerial expertise. They are considered the senior technical supervisor within a rating. They are also known as "Department Chief."
Service Chief (SVC) - The SVC is considered the "ground level" leadership of the Navy. Crewmen hold the same regard to Chiefs as they do with Officers. They utilize skills to direct crewmen towards accomplishing the Navy’s mission. They work in conjunction with their division officers, taking care of personnel and equipment issues.
Petty Officer 1st Class (PO1) - The PO1 now has a leadership role in a department. They delegate simpler tasks and handle the most complex tasks.
Petty Officer 2nd Class (PO2) - The PO2 has proven to be a self-reliant leader and does not need much oversight from their seniors. They mentor junior crewmen to ensure work performance, professional development, and training.
Petty Officer 3rd Class (PO3) - The PO3 maintains regular job duties, but much of what is learned in training now shifts into leadership roles. They are self-sufficient leaders and begin mentoring junior crewmen.

Enlisted Ranks
Senior Serviceman (SSN) - Given to those enlisted crewmen that show NCO potential. Given tentative squad leader positions.
Serviceman (SN) - Well versed in their given position, or are college-educated prior to enlistment.
Serviceman Apprentice (SA) - No longer entry level. Carries out orders issued to them.
Serviceman Recruit (SR) - Rank awarded at completion of all Basic Training, and upon assignment to the Navy.
Recruit (RCT) - Rank given on day one of Basic Training. No insignia is worn at this time.
