Mur-Delusa, Aspect of Reflection

The last spark of creation sought to enrich the Aclarians with emotion, to bring the light of love and compassion to the many lifeforms of Aclara. Yet as it attuned to the feelings of mortalkind, the spark was overwhelmed with the neverending darkness and suffering of nature and society; it drowned as the fear and hatred swirled around it. The spark flew away farther and farther, never escaping the depths and the dark; it tore into the Veil one last hole, shaping for itself a space of tranquility - a stretch of land that looped on itself in all directions, free of life, free of thought. From the spark emerged the last Aspect of creation - the power to look inside oneself, the power to endure the darkness. The Aspect grabbed the grey dust of their desolate plane and fashioned many masks, polishing them until they turned white as marble; they enchanted the masks, then traveled to other planes, offering them to those in pain, gifting them the silence of thought.
— The Creation of Aclara

Mur-Delusa is the youngest Divine Aspect sibling, born out of the Maelstrom at the dawn of Creation as the ripples of the fight between Nothing and Matter filled the rest of Aclara with countless distant, forgotten worlds. They reign over all the aspects that give intelligent beings identity: "the Self acting upon Itself" that holds emotion and desire, but also self-awareness. Their attunement to the inner thoughts and feelings of people almost drove them to insanity as their mind was fueled with the fear, regret and pain of all living beings.

The Divine Aspect prefers to spend their days in solitude on their personal plane, creating artifacts and living constructs to toy with in a world devoid of anything. They do visit the Heavenly Temple when the duties of the Divine Council force them to; they also oversee the other planes of Aclara, searching for people who have given up on life. Mur-Delusa offers those who wish to forget the gift of a new life: her white Masks of Solace, once attached to someone's face, will completely strip them of memories (alongside other stuff, such as reason or emotion). They do this out of kindness for those going through unbearable pain and will not force anyone into accepting their "blessing".

The Deluge Between Realities

The home plane of Mur-Delusa is a continuous stretch of perfectly flat rocky-metallic land. One can walk into any direction and reach the starting point without changing directions; this is not due to some near-invisible curvature, but is rather a property of the realm itself. The plane is filled with Mur-Delusa's creations; living amalgamations called "chimeras" and dangerous artifacts.

Divine Domains

Poor thing, tormented in sleep as you are in the waking world... Fret not, child. I shall grant you respite.

  • Ego: As the Aspect of Reflection, Mur-Delusa has authority over the very concept of "self" - anything related to personal expression is channeled through them. Many gods and mythical beings exist as avatars of Mur-Delusa, such as muses and artistic gods; those who express themselves freely are close to the Aspect's heart (literally).
  • Emotions: The Aspect of Reflection can read other people's thoughts and feelings; they can adjust the range of their ability from one single person to the entirety of Aclara (although they would rather not do it because of how the ability works; when Mur-Delusa "reads" one or more persons, it feels as if each target is screaming into their ears how they are feeling and what they are thinking). While they choose to avoid direct intervention most of the time, Mur-Delusa will answer the prayers of those in anguish and in need of help; their ethereal touch can ease all forms of pain, be it physical, mental or emotional.
  • Dreams: Loosely connected to their principal domain, the realm of dreams is also under Mur-Delusa's influence. The Aspect can travel through dreams, appear inside mortal's minds and offer them guidance. They enjoy visiting children during nightmares in order to soothe them.

Artifacts

Made of a stone resembling pure white marble, the Masks of Solace are very powerful mind-altering artifacts created by Mur-Delusa themselves. When equipped, they permanently etch themselves into the wearer's body, permanently altering their physical structure, as well as their psyches and internal mana structure. Once somebody puts on one of these masks, their past will be completely erased; the process can (and often does) cause severe personality shifts and loss of mental function, oftentimes manifesting itself through madness. As the artifact becomes one with the person, the user gains access to a large amount of mana, a larger lifespan and enhanced senses (especially sight, being able to see clearly no matter how bright/dark the world is, as well as being able to perceive the full light spectrum). Their innate spells may change, be replaced or simply disappear as a side effect of mana structure tampering.

I have seen your anguish, child. I have felt your pain. I have lived your torment. Please, if you so wish, allow me to remove your sorrows. Allow me to give you the only respite I know, the only help I can provide.

Mur-Delusa will sometimes come to those who go through intense mental turmoil and offer them the gift of forgetting through a Mask of Solace, but they will respect the wishes of the person if they refuse the gift. The most common place for these interventions are battlefields - as one sees their brothers and sisters in arms and realizes they might not return to their loved ones, the blend of regret, fear, pain and rage becomes a beacon for the Aspect of Reflection. The only other way to aquire a Mask of Solace is to find it after its previous owner has died; this is a much rarer occurence, as killing a masked fighter is impossible for most people (due to the increased power offered by the mask) and finding a dead mask wearer, while not outright impossible, requires too much luck (due to the prolonged lifespan).
