Martha Washington Character in A Strange New World | World Anvil

Martha Washington

Lieutenant Martha Washington

A Coalition Military Specialist is an elite officer of proven loyalty who is entrusted with important independent missions, often with a small team of talented operatives.   Martha Washington is one such officer.   He is given the mission of assessing the Free Lands for any communities or strongholds that might obstruct the Coalition's advance in their upcoming Campaign against Tolkeen. He has set up a camp in the small village of Rifthaven as it is the only relatively safe location in the area.   Yes, Dear Reader, I said "He." Despite your 21st century sensibilities, Martha is a popular name in post-cataclysm earth. Exploits of a famous hero with the same name were told and retold during the dark ages of the cataclysm and of the hope she brought to people even in her death at the respectable age of 100. Children of both sexes are named Martha in her honor.

Physical Description

General Physical Condition

A peak specimen of human athleticism, Martha abides by the Heinz Lenz definition of physical fitness: "the ability of the body to perfom the tasks the mind asks of it."

Personality Characteristics

Vices & Personality flaws

Martha is addicted to physical fitness. He will wake early and take several hours to perform calisthenics before getting to work on other tasks. Any teammates he brings with him on his missions must take part in one hour's worth of the regemin with him. That hour is usually the last hour, and he still usually outpaces them.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Interestingly, Martha Washington is not offensively jingoistic about the Coalition. He understands that there are others who disagree. While he is utterly convinced of the Coalition's correctness, it is his understanding of other points of view that marked him for missions in locations populated by deebees and practitioners of magic.   For he does understand other points of view. He has little tolerance for them, but he understands them. He prides himself in this fact and it feeds his ego that he can understand other people while knowing they are wrong. One would think this would make him a patronizing ass, but he is well trained and well practiced at appearing to be empathetic and not at all patronizing. (or so he believes) This appearance is part of the mission, after all.

Social Aptitude

A bit pedantic, he is overconfident in his own abilities and exagerrates his mental acuity. It simply never occurs to him that he could be wrong about anything.

Wealth & Financial state

As a military officer, Martha receives the majority of his compensation via free housing, food and services. He is given a small discretionary stipend to spend on personal entertainment and luxuries, but since he is nearly constantly in the field, his bank account grows unchecked and ignored. Should he need to buy anything with electronic credits, he will probably be able to afford it.
