Brian's Kingdom Settlement in A Strange New World | World Anvil

Brian's Kingdom

A haphazard assortment of people hopeful for a secure life under the protection of Brian's Tower.

Demographics

A mixed assortment of humans and deebees, mostly humans. At least half the population are farmers and their families. There are a couple dozen craftsmen and artisans, two Inns, a boardng house and a livery. Two mechanics (one at the livery who works on vehicles, and one with a shop for general repairs), three mercenaries employed by Brian, and a clinic with a body-doc and assistant. A "priest" of The Circle of Life and a "conduit" of Armillaria. An alchemist concludes the list of the town's professional people.

Government

Whatever Brian says, goes. Whomever does not abide by Brian's dictates is asked to leave without delay.

Defences

Between Brian and his three mercenary comrades, the tower can be considered nigh impregnable from anything but an overwhelming force. Brian is a typical human merc with some valuable military grade bionics and cybernetics. Destry is a SAMAS pilot and has her own SAMAS hangar and sally-port in the side of the tower 10 meters off the ground. Monkey is a liberated coalition Dog-Boy and his partner Zan is a liberated coalition wilderness scout. The two of them have an oddly uncomfortable relationship to witness that is a bit too friendly. Zan and Monkey will use MI-3000 "firefly" hovercycles when patrolling the territory around Brian's Tower while Destry is at a rapid response status around the clock in the tower.

Industry & Trade

There is very little industry and external trade between Brian's Kingdom and the rest of the world. It is mostly sefl-sufficient but will welcome visitors and merchants with open arms for news and goods they can't get otherwise.

History

A successful mercenary decided to settle upon the land. Brian, the mercenary, built a defensive tower in the rolling hills south of Tolkeen and called it home. Soon, the presence of the tower attracted people who thought they could gain some semblance of protection from it and Brian. Brian obliged, and soon a small community built up around it. With tongue in cheek, he called it his Kingdom. Somehow the name stuck and the community is known as Brian's Kingdom from the coalition states to Tolkeen and beyond.

Architecture

Haphazard houses and shops constructed with whatever materials were available in whatever style was particular to the builders/owners.

Geography

Situated in a picturesque river valley (not one that existed pre-rifts due to the cataclysm), Brian's Kingdom is centered around the tower, which overlooks it all.
