Orkhamans

Long ago the ship came across the great waters in the north. On it where a great many demon disguised as heavenly spirits sent by the Great and Glorious Sun God.
They came among the people and many a unwise maiden and brave hunter fell for their unearthly beauty. But as the children of this unholy unions where born the truth was shown.
For this where not heavenly spirits or the children of mortal men. But evil and foul monsters akin to those born through the wickedness of the Dark Deceiver. This monsters this Orkhamas, proved what this demons truly where.
And the people drove them away to the bitter north. And there they stay, when we see them we most slay them for they are the children of darkness!
/The Rakh'Gual legend of the Orkhama people.
In this one case I feel we need to hear from a second source. As the mystery of this orc nations existens has so few known facts.
Before our grandmothers, grandmothers where even born the lost clan of elvahams came from across the sea. They where cast aside by one of their hateful gods and sent to dwell far from their light.
On this shores they found mortal men, whit whom meny of their kind loved. And by that love where our people born. Not elvaham nor man, but stronger then both.
But man whom has a great jealous in his heart hated us. They slew most of our elvaham mothers and fathers, and drove us and our mortal mothers and fathers north. Hoping we would die in the ice and snow.
But it only made us stronger. Those we most never forget the evil of men nor the false gods whom cast our ancestors out of the light. For we found new gods in this dark lands, gods whom accept us for whom we are.
For we are the Orkhaman! We are the greatest of warriors!
/The Orkhama peoples legend of themselves

Mainstays of the Culture

The one "true" orc nation, in the sense that it is not simply a human or elven culture transformed by it's orcish children. But a nation that for millennia have been formed by a solely orc population. The orckhamas are a people whit ancient traditions, history and culture. Only their faith are in part formed by their human neighbors, but even that they have made their own. In the orckhaman telling of the Helmanir faith Bölverk is a tyrant and Utgarda is the god of freedom. This total reversal of beliefs seams to be a major part of orckhaman culture. The need to rebel and not be as their human neighbors is in part what made this orc nation whit it is.

The Mothers and Fathers

All orcs of the nation honor and obey their Mother and Father. Those the only time a orckhaman women obeys a man is when her father commands her. For in orckhaman society women have higher rank then men. Only women may studie magic or lead a clan as it's Kvinthana*. The highest position that can be held by a man is the rank of Father. When a orckhaman women declares that a man is the father of her children she has appointed him protector of her and her children.   In daily life a Mother rules the household and the Father tends to the children and work that needs to be done. Only in combat are Mothers and Fathers almost equals. In battle a Mother and Father fight side by side doing all they can to protect one another. If a Father dies it is expected that his mate will one day find a new Father to her household. But if a Mother dies her mate is expected to slay her killer, if she die in combat or was murdered, and then kill himself.

Young Orcs

Orc men whom are not chosen to become a Father are seen as boys. Just as any orc women whom have jet to become pregnant are seen as girls. This younger orcs live whit there Mothers and are both the children of their mothers and their servants. Orc women whom wish to become mothers needs the clans permission where as the orc boys may have sex whit out such permission.   At times "young" orc boys are never chosen to become a Father. This "boys" join the clans black hands, those named as they tattoo their hands black. A small group of orc men that spend all their time, hunting and training ways to kill a foe. Where this custom comes form non now remember but this are perhaps the deadliest of all orckhamans. For they are trained killers whom are raised to never question the orders given to them by their clan Mother.

The Clans

Together a Mother, Father and their children make up a house hold. Each house hold has a seat in the clan council which rules the clan and elects the Kvinthana. The title of Kvinthana is held for life but at any point any Mother of the clan may challenge her for the rank of clan leader. In any case the council holds more power during daily life. It's the council that upholds orckhaman laws and makes all the everyday decision in the clan. Only in war do the Kvinthana hold total power.   In war the Kvinthana is expected to lead the clans forces into combat. And if she leads her clan to a defeat it is custom for her to kill herself. This happens rather often as the orckhaman not only sell their swords to fight in the wars of other nations. But the clans also fight one another over a great number of things. As a result of this infighting the orckhaman orcs are always well trained in combat and new clans often form as old fall in to ruin.

The Kvingun

The title of Kvingun is given to the most powerful Kvinthana of the whole orckhaman nation. To gain this title a one most first be a Kvinthana, and then you most outlive the current Kvingun. The last thing one most do is to fight all other Kvinthanas whom want the title to the death in a ritual battle called the Culling. Only when all other applicants lay dead at your feet are you the new Kvingun.   The title is held for life and to question the will of the Kvingun is seen as the highest form of treason. The women whom holds is title is seen as a living goddess and those rules the orc nation as a absolut monarch. The clan of this ruler always grow in power as it is now removed from the constant infighting among the orckhaman nation.   As a result many orcs from ruined clans join the Kvinguns clan seeking a safe place to regroup. The role of the Kvingun as ruler is not to uphold the peace, as is the role of most other rulers. But rather to make sure that the clan wars are fought in a fair and in accordance whit the Fang code. Any Kvinthana found guilty of braking the code in anyway risks to be ritually stripped of all her power and have her clan given to her rivals.   But beyond the role of arbitrator a Kvingun has little official power. Tho her word is law, she is not a queen that the other clans Kvinthanas most pay tribute to. Only when the whole nation is under threat do most Kvingun act and take control over all of the clans.

The Shamans

Only women may become shamans and only after making a oath to Utgarda to be his and only his. Those the orckhaman shamans are one of the very few orc organisations that practice celibacy. The shamans are not part of any clans and are seen as holy women that most not be disrupt by the outside world. Because of this little is known about the orckhaman shamans.   What we do know is that they serve the Kvingun and at times fight in orckhaman mercenary company's. We also know that they preform all the rituals of the orckhaman culture. It is said that they are lead by three arch-shamans whom sit in three hidden shrines. Shrines which only other shamans and the Kvingun may see.

The Fang Code

Is the law of the orckhaman nation. In it is laid out all the great crimes one can preform in combat or daily life. As well as the punishments for said crimes. To go through them all here would take far to long. I recommend you read the code directly if you are interested.   * Kvinthana is a orckhain word that means clan mother or great mother. It is nearly only used to assign a women the title of clan leader. But it could also be used as a translation of "grandmother".

Ethnic Features

Orckhaman orcs have dark green-gray skin. Most have black hair, tho some are pale blond. In their build they are somewhat shorter then most other orcs. Most of them have eyes that are some shade of red or yellow. Their most noted feature is however the fangs of their lower jaw. Tho all orcs have fangs, the orckhaman have boar like tusks.
